Adam Davidson Bio, Life, and Career:

Adam Davidson is a journalist who was born in the United States in 1970. He was instrumental in the conception of the Planet Money show that airs on NPR. In the past, he has covered topics such as globalization, the Asian tsunami, and the conflict in Iraq. For his work on these topics, he was awarded the Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize. He and Adam McKay previously served as co-hosts on the Gimlet Media show titled “Surprisingly Awesome.”

After working as an economics columnist for The New York Times Magazine, Davidson began working for The New Yorker in the year 2016. Jack Davidson, Davidson’s father, was an actor in both movies and television shows. Jack Davidson grew up in the Westbeth Artists Community, which is located in the West Village of Manhattan. He received his degree from the University of Chicago in 1992 after completing his studies there.

Adam is not religious and is of Jewish ancestry.  After serving as the Middle East correspondent for Marketplace at PRI, Davidson moved on to become the international business and economics correspondent at NPR. He began his career in journalism at PRI.  Planet Money on NPR was established in 2008 by Davidson and Alex Blumberg in collaboration.  After that, he became an economics columnist for the New York Times Magazine.

He went on to write. It was in 2016 when he started working as a staff writer for The New Yorker. By 2021, he had resigned from that role, but he continued to work for the magazine as a contributing writer. Davidson summed up the writers’ majority opinion when he said the following in reference to a NewsGuild unionization push that was promising to shield New Yorker writers against firings and unwanted editorial input: “None of us want to do anything that could damage the magazine we love.

We don’t want to have a union that is so powerful that it allows mediocrity to thrive and makes it tough to fire underachievers. We actually quite enjoy the fact that we are always required to prove ourselves worthy of our position. The reporting that Davidson and Alex Blumberg did for the show “The Giant Pool of Money” in May 2008 earned them both the George Polk Award in Radio Reporting.

By presenting interviews with people who were involved in each stage of the problem, the article provided an explanation of the extremely complicated series of occurrences that led up to the subprime mortgage crisis. The episode received widespread linking throughout the blogosphere and continues to be one of the most downloaded podcasts from the show.

Adam Davidson is currently employed as a staff writer at The New Yorker, where he is responsible for writing the weekly “The Financial Page” in addition to contributing larger articles and web stories. Previously, he was a columnist for the “On Money” section of the New York Times Magazine as well as a contributor to that publication. After working for National Public Radio as the organization’s foreign business and economics correspondent, he went on to co-found and co-host the program “Planet Money,” which he also helped to create.
