Amanda Seales Bio, Life, and Career:

Amanda Ingrid Seales is a comedian and actress who was born in the United States on July 1, 1981. Previously, she performed under the stage name Amanda Diva. She has been a main cast member of the HBO comedy series “Insecure” since the year 2017. I Be Knowin, her debut hour-long stand-up comedy special, was broadcast on HBO in 2019.  After that, in the year 2020, Seales presented the first episode of Smart Funny & Black, a comedy game show that highlights aspects of Black history, culture, and experience.

Alongside Loni Love, Tamera Mowry, Adrienne Bailon, and Jeannie Mai, Amanda Seales served as a co-host on the syndicated daytime talk show known as “The Real.” Seales was also a co-host on the show. On July 1, 1981, Amanda Seales entered the world in Inglewood, California. Her mother was raised in the town of Mt. Moritz in Grenada, where she was born. Her father comes from the African-American culture. Because of this, both she and her mother hold citizenship in both the United States of America and the island nation of Grenada. In 1989, she made the move to Orlando, Florida, and subsequently enrolled at Dr. Phillips High School in the city.

After completing her undergraduate degree at SUNY-Purchase, she went on to earn a master’s degree in African-American studies from Columbia University, where she focused her studies on hip hop. In the movie Cop and a Half from 1993, Seales debuted in a supporting role as Katy. This was her first film.  The following year, in 1993, Seales had a recurring role on the Nickelodeon sitcom My Brother and Me (1994), playing the character Deonne Wilburn. She made an appearance on Def Poetry Jam, hosted by Russell Simmons, in the year 2002.

Seales rose to prominence in the public eye after becoming known as “VJ Amanda Diva” on the Sunday edition of MTV2’s Sucker Free Countdown. She played the role of Tiffany DuBois on the HBO series Insecure in 2016, and her appearances on the show were recurring.  Additionally in the year 2016, Seales started hosting her own show on truTV titled “Greatest Ever.” On NBC, the comedy competition series Bring the Funny made its debut on July 9, 2019, for the first time ever.  In addition to her role as host, Seales also serves as a judge on the show, along with Chrissy Teigen, Kenan Thompson, and Jeff Foxworthy.

Throughout the entirety of 2019, Seales appeared on the syndicated daytime talk show The Real in the capacity of a frequent guest host. On January 6, 2020, Seales was given the title of permanent co-host, having previously held the role of guest co-host. After co-hosting the show for a period of six months, she decided to leave the program, citing her dissatisfaction with the fact that she was unable to freely discuss current social issues as the reason for her decision.

In September 2020, Seales accused The Real of stealing ideas from her show Smart Funny & Black. She stated that The Real’s segment “Black Lives Matter University” featured a logo that closely resembled the emblem used by Smart Funny & Black. On social media in June of 2020, Seales announced to her followers that she will be hosting the BET Awards on June 28 of that same year.

In February of 2022, Seales was given a role in the documentary series Everything’s Gonna Be All White, which was broadcast on Showtime. The series consisted of three parts. In 2007, Seales took the place of Natalie Stewart of the musical duo Floetry on tour with Marsha Ambrosius. In December of the same year, Seales released her first extended play (EP), titled Life Experience, under the name Amanda Diva.

In 2008, she was a guest performer on the song “Manwomanboogie,” which was included on the album The Renaissance, which was nominated for a Grammy.  Spandex, Rhymes & Soul was initially released by Seales on March 3, 2009. In 2019, Seales was embroiled in a controversy that resulted from a widespread misunderstanding in which many people falsely reported that she had accused former NFL player and neurosurgeon resident Myron Rolle of sexually harassing multiple female patients.

She posted several videos to her Instagram account in which she alleged that he engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior and revealed that she had learned of these allegations from other women. Since then, a number of the individuals who were responsible for spreading that story have admitted that Seales did not make those allegations on her own.

In the weeks leading up to the date that Rodney Reed was scheduled to be executed on November 20, 2019, Seales made a public appeal to Texas Governor Greg Abbott to either exonerate Reed or stay his execution. After gaining further insight into his past, she ultimately decided to withdraw her support for him. In February 2020, Seales courted controversy by defending Jussie Smollett on The Real following the actor’s arrest for staging a hate crime. Smollett had been charged with staging the incident.

She went on to defend the actor by saying, “Even if it was a hoax for the sake of bringing attention to this, then I’m like, that’s low-key noble,” while referring to the allegations as “alleged.”  Smollett received a sentence of one hundred and fifty days in prison in 2022 after being found responsible for staging a hoax hate crime.
