Andrew Koenig Bio, Life, and Career:

Joshua Andrew Koenig was an American character actor, film director, editor, writer, and activist for human rights. He was born on August 17, 1968, and passed away on or around February 16, 2010. Growing Pains made him a household name with his performance as Richard “Boner” Stabone. The Star Trek actor Walter Koenig and his wife Judy Levitt welcomed their son Andrew on August 17, 1968. Andrew is the son of both of his parents. The author Harlan Ellison drew inspiration for his short story “Jeffty Is Five” from a young man named Josh Koenig. Ellison referred to the boy by his given first name.

I had been amazed and amused by Josh Koenig, and I immediately thought of just such a child who was apprehended at the appropriate time when they were five years old. The sweetness of Josh, the intelligence of Josh, and the inquisitive nature of Josh can all be found in Jeffty. In no small measure, Josh is Jeffty. During the first four seasons of the ABC sitcom Growing Pains, which aired from 1985 to 1989, Koenig had a recurring role as Richard “Boner” Stabone, who was the best friend of the character Mike Seaver, which was played by Kirk Cameron.  During the same time period, he had guest starring roles on episodes of the sitcoms My Sister Sam and My Two Dads, as well as the drama 21 Jump Street.

In the early 1990s, he lent his voice to the animated series G.I. Joe as Ambush and the Night Creeper Leader.  He also had a small role as Tumak in the episode “Sanctuary” of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1993. In the fan film Batman: Dead End, which was released in 2003, Koenig gave a performance as The Joker. In April of 1982, he was part of a production of Verdi’s Falstaff that was put on by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. He played the role of the Page Boy in all eight of the show’s performances. As an adult, he has performed with the improv group Charles Whitman Reilly and Friends and had a starring role as the play’s MC in the interactive theatre production The Boomerang Kid, which debuted in 2007.

Koenig continued his acting career in the independent film The Theory of Everything (2006) 2006, but he worked more and more behind the scenes after that. In the short films “Good Boy” (2003), “Woman in a Green Dress,” and “Instinct vs. Reason,” he served as writer, producer, and/or director (2004). He was a video producer for the podcast Never Not Funny in addition to his work as an editor on a number of different films (2006–2010). His last performance was in the movie Daze: Vol. Too — NonSeNse, which was still in post-production at the time of his passing.

Koenig played the role of Vice Chancellor in the movie. During the 1990s, the community of Venice Beach, California, that engaged in nonviolent direct action with the goal of protecting the environment included Koenig as an important member. Koenig, who is vegan, went to Burma in July 2007 as part of the United States Campaign for Burma and visited refugee camps in Thailand that were inhabited by Burmese people with his father. During the 119th Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, California, in January of the following year, he participated in a protest against the Communist Party of China’s political and financial support of the military dictatorship in Burma.

After a pre-parade human rights march that had been agreed to by parade officials was allegedly stifled by them, he entered the parade and stood in front of a Chinese float promoting the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was arrested for his participation in the Due to Koenig’s act of civil disobedience, he was taken into custody for a short period of time and his sign, which read “China: Free Burma” in both English and Chinese, was confiscated. Bill Paparian, a fellow protester and a former mayor of Pasadena, served as Koenig’s defense attorney during the trial. Burma has not been condemned by China, even though China is a member of the United Nations Security Council.

China buys gas from Burma and also sells the country weapons, which are then used by the Burmese military against the Burmese people. This means that they are actually quite complicit, which was the whole point of the protest against the China float in the first place “Koenig explained. Koenig also mentioned the Chinese government’s implicit support of the genocide in Sudan, sweatshops, and tainted export products, saying of the float, “China is putting on a good face because of the Olympics, but it’s time to send a message to the Chinese government that they have to not just change their face, but change the way that they do things.

Koenig was referring to the fact that the Chinese government has implicitly supported the genocide in Sudan,  According to what Koenig was quoted as saying in the Pasadena Weekly, “Their rights to freedom of speech have been completely violated by this censorship. As a nation that is governed by a Constitution and a Bill of Rights, it is imperative that we continue to uphold and defend our own, as well as  acknowledge the rights of people living in other parts of the world.”
