Anna Cathcart Bio, Life and Career:

Anna Cathcart entered the world on June 16th, 2003 in the city of Vancouver. She is a descendant of both Chinese and Irish people. She is the younger of two sisters and has an elder sister who is five years her senior. In 2021, she received her diploma from her high school. When asked to explain her time spent in school, she compared it to “having two full-time jobs at once.” During her time filming Odd Squad, she and the other cast members received lessons in two-hour increments on location. Beginning in the year 2023, Cathcart is enrolled in the University of British Columbia, where she is working toward a degree in sociology and creative writing.

According to Cathcart, her sister started acting before she did. When she was just six or seven years old, she signed with a talent agent and appeared in several commercials. When she was only eight years old, she was featured in a commercial for Crayola and Campbell’s Soup. Cathcart has remarked that she has “never really been to acting classes,” and that the performances she watches on Disney Channel and Netflix serve as her primary sources of motivation.

Cathcart was scouted and asked to audition for the TVOKids and PBS Kids series, Odd Squad, when she was 12 years old. This happened after a break in the series. She and another actor named Isaac Kragten were both chosen to play the roles of Agent Olympia and Agent Otis, respectively. They spent a total of seven months filming the series in the city of Toronto. On June 20th, 2016, the first episode of season 2 titled “First Day” was broadcast on PBS Kids, and on June 21st, 2016, it was broadcast on TVOKids.

In the same year, Cathcart made her debut on the big screen in the film spin-off Odd Squad: The Movie, in which she recreated the part that had launched her career. Cathcart was honored with a Joey Award for her work, and she and the other members of her cast were also co-nominated for an additional Joey Award. In November of 2016, PBS placed an order for twenty episodes of a spin-off series called OddTube that would range from one to three minutes in length.

Cathcart played the role of Agent Olympia, the show’s host, in the series, and she also resumed that role in the show.[15]She got her start in the entertainment industry by playing the lead role of Olympia in the PBS Kids/TVOKids series Odd Squad (2016–2019), for which she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. After that, she has roles as Dizzy Tremaine in the Disney Channel movies Descendants 2 (2017) and 3 (2019), Kitty Song-Covey in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before films (2018–2021), and Zoe Valentine in the Brat web series of the same name (2019). All of these films were released by the Disney Channel.

Cathcart has returned to the role of Kitty Song-Covey in the spin-off series XO, Kitty, which airs on Netflix from 2023 till the present. In the 2017 film Descendants 2, the sequel to the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, Cathcart reprised her role as Dizzy Tremaine, the daughter of Drizella Tremaine. The film had its world premiere on July 21, 2017.

Cathcart joined the cast of the movie adaptation of Jenny Han’s best-selling novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in the year 2017 when she was just 14 years old. In the film, she was cast in the role of 11-year-old Kitty Song-Covey, who is the younger sister of the main character, Lara Jean. During her audition, Cathcart sat cross-legged, which the production staff deemed to be “perfect for Kitty”

After its debut on Netflix in 2018, the movie swiftly rose to prominence as one of the streaming service’s most-watched original productions. The movie was met with generally positive reviews, and the actors earned accolades from reviewers as well. Cathcart has been referred to as a “hilarious standout” by Molly Freeman of Screen Rant, and Charlie Salek of Joker Mag has referred to the supporting performances as “crucial.”

In November of 2018, Cathcart was given the role of the eponymous character in the Brat web-based series Zoe Valentine. Cathcart was cast in the role. Cathcart did not have to audition for the part because she was approached about it instead. As of the month of November 2020, the first episode of the show, which was released online on January 17, 2019, had 4.9 million views on YouTube.

Cathcart referred to the filming process by saying that it was “crazy,” adding that it “was such a blur but so much fun.” Cathcart reprised her role as Zoe Valentine in the Brat film Spring Breakaway, which was uploaded to YouTube on March 15, 2019. She was put forth for consideration for the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award, which gave members of the public the opportunity to vote for their favorite Canadian artist working in film, television, or digital media. The award was bestowed upon her. Midway through the year 2020, in response to the restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, Cathcart held a virtual series titled Letters To, which provided readers with the opportunity to communicate directly with their preferred authors. Glitter Magazine predicted that the series will have “all literary fans buzzing” once it was developed by Picturestart and published on Facebook Watch.

To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean is the title of the third installment in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film series, which was directed by Anna Cathcart and shot primarily between July and September 2019 in Vancouver, New York, and Seoul. Cathcart reprised her role in the film. In the 2021 Disney Channel Original Movie Spin, Cathcart played the character of Molly. Principal photography for the film Spin started in the early part of October 2020 and continued through the month of November.

Cathcart’s performance was praised by Amy Amatangelo of Paste, who referred to her as the “generation’s secret weapon” and noted that projects that included her were guaranteed to be of good quality. Amatangelo also stated that projects that included Cathcart were guaranteed to be of high quality. Additionally, she provided the voice of Dizzy in the animated special Descendants: The Royal Wedding, which was broadcast following Spin.

It was reported in March 2021 that Cathcart would reprise her role as Kitty Song-Covey in a To All the Boys spin-off series that would subsequently be known as XO, Kitty.
