Ben Barnes Bio, Life, and Career:

Benjamin Thomas Barnes is a British actor and singer. He was born on August 20, 1981, in England. It is his parts as Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia film series (2008–2010), Logan Delos in Westworld (2016–2020), Billy Russo/Jigsaw in the Marvel series The Punisher (2017–2019), and The Darkling in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone (2021–) that have brought him the most recognition.

In addition, he portrayed young Dunstan Thorn in the 2007 film Stardust, the title character in the 2009 film Dorian Gray, Neil McCormick in the 2011 film Killing Bono, Alejandro in the 2013 film The Big Wedding, Tom Ward in the 2014 film Seventh Son, Samuel Adams in the 2015 film Sons of Liberty, and Benjamin Greene in the 2019 film Gold Digger.

Before the release of his debut extended play, Songs For You, which included a music video for “Rise Up” in October 2021, Barnes released his first single, “11:11,” along with a music video in September 2021. “11:11” was accompanied by a music video. The songs “11:11,” “Rise Up,” “Pirate Song,” “Not the End,” and “Ordinary Day” may be found on the EP. He is the older brother of his younger sibling Jack. Barnes cites his mother’s Jewish upbringing in South Africa, his father’s scientific education, and his attendance at what he describes as a “vaguely Christian” school where he “liked the hymns” as formative influences on his personality.

Barnes had his education at Homefield Preparatory School in Sutton and King’s College School in Wimbledon, both of which are private schools exclusively for young men. He participated in musical ensembles at King’s by singing in choirs and playing percussion instruments (drums and piano) in jazz orchestras and concert bands. In 1997, he started his career in musical theater by becoming a member of the National Youth Music Theatre.

At the age of sixteen, he delivered his debut performance as a drummer in the musical adaption of Bugsy Malone that was performed in the West End. Before beginning his studies at the university, he worked for two years as a singer, a television presenter, and as a member of a team led by entertainment svengali Simon Fuller to open a jazz club and release an album. Neither of these endeavors was successful.

Barnes then attended Kingston University, where he majored in English literature and studied drama. While there, he appeared in and directed a number of shows, including Don Juan (in which he played the lead role), The Golden Age, Exposure, and The Zoo Story. His writings on several topics from Harry Potter and The Hobbit earned him first place in the English Prize competition. While he was working at the theater on intense acts such as The Ragged Child, The Dreaming, Loving Ophelia, Sex Chip, and Rock ‘N’ Roll, he briefly joined the boyband Hyrise. They played in A Song For Europe 2004 to determine the UK’s entry for Eurovision with the song Leading Me On.

He was one of the members of Hyrise. When he graduated from the university in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Drama with English Literature, he was the first drama student in the university’s history to receive First Class Honours. In 2008, he became the youngest person ever to be honored on the university’s Wall of Fame, which recognizes more than twenty alumni who have excelled in their fields. In 2006, Barnes began his career in television, making his first appearance as a guest on the British television series Doctors. In the same year, he became a member of the ensemble cast of a production of The History Boys on the West End. In this play, he starred as the sexually provocative Dakin and won praise for his performance.

Barnes made his debut in the role of young Dunstan Thorn in the feature film adaptation of Matthew Vaughn’s Stardust (2007), which was adapted from the novel of the same name written by Neil Gaiman. In the 2008 film Bigga Than Ben, directed by Suzie Halewood, he played the role of Cobakka, a Russian criminal. Barnes rose to prominence in June 2008 for his performance as Prince Caspian in the film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which was directed by Andrew Adamson.

Adamson referred to the movie as “a coming of age and, to some degree, a loss of innocence story, with Caspian starting out quite naive, then craving revenge, and finally letting go of the vengeance.” [Caspian] started out quite naive, then craved revenge, and then let go of the vengeance. In spite of the fact that many readers imagine Caspian to be a young boy, the book makes reference to the fact that his age is comparable to Peter’s in one of its chapters; hence, it was decided that William Moseley should be played by an older actor.

Barnes was cast approximately two and a half weeks after his initial encounter with the film’s creators. He was a good fit for the surrogate family of Adamson and the four actors who played the Pevensies. He prepared by riding and performing stunts for two months in New Zealand before the competition. The performance that Mandy Patinkin gave as Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride helped to inspire the actor who played him in the movie to give him a Mediterranean accent. Barnes lent his voice to the role of Prince Caspian in the computer game adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. His portrayal of the character got him accolades for Best Male Performance at the 2008 National Movie Awards, Choice Movie Breakout Male at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, and Best Breakthrough at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
