Bob the Drag Queen Bio, Life and Career:

Bob the Drag Queen is a Drag Queen. He is also known by the stage name Caldwell Tidicue. His victory in the eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is what brought him the most notoriety. As of the year 2020, he is the first Black Drag Race queen to surpass the one million follower milestone on Instagram, where he has more than one million followers.  Following his time on Drag Race, he went on to pursue a career in acting and has since made guest appearances on a number of television shows, including High Maintenance (2016), Tales of the City (2019), and A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019).

Alongside fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race competitors Eureka O’Hara and Shangela, he started co-hosting the show We’re Here on HBO in the year 2020.  The series has garnered praise from several publications and websites.  Bob the Drag Queen was given the surname “Caldwell” at birth in 1986 by his mother, Martha Caldwell, which he later combined into his professional name, “Caldwell Tidicue.” Bob the Drag Queen is also known as “Martha Caldwell.”

He was born in the year 1986 in the city of Columbus, Georgia, and he spent his childhood in the county of Clayton, Georgia. Caldwell elaborated as follows: “You may refer to it as the hood. You can say it. That part of the world is my home.” In Columbus, Georgia, his mother ran a drag bar with the same name. She took Caldwell with her to the drag bar on the evenings when she could not afford a babysitter. There, he would labour and collect money from the customers.

Caldwell has talked about how his mother was a positive early influence on his life and how she supported him. He went on to say, “I also had a mother who encouraged me and told me I could achieve everything I set my mind to. As a result, I grew up thinking, “Y’all have no idea how incredible I am.” My mother was one of the mothers that said something to the effect of, “You are so handsome, why aren’t you modelling? I am handsome, but model… let’s not get crazy.”

Bob has also been influenced by a number of famous drag queens, including Peppermint, Bianca Del Rio, BeBe Zahara Benet, and Monét X Change, who is also her co-host on the show Sibling Rivalry. Caldwell received his secondary education at Morrow High School while he was a youngster. After that, he attended Columbus State University to pursue a degree in drama. When he went to a lesbian party during Pride Month in 2008, that was the first time he appeared in drag.

Caldwell uprooted his life and travelled to New York City when he was 22 years old, bringing with him only $500 and two suitcases. In the beginning, he planned on having a career in both acting and stand-up comedy.  Caldwell spent a number of years working in children’s theatre prior to beginning his career as a drag queen. He has “always found children to be a source of delight for [him].” After watching the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race on TiVo during the summer of 2009, Caldwell decided to try his hand at drag and began performing. He claimed that he “got hooked” on the episode and that he was instantly motivated to acquire a TK-7 cosmetics kit from the Ben Nye website as a result of the show’s influence.

Since his earliest performances, the primary focus of his character has been on stand-up comedy routines. After a couple of months of performing as a drag queen, he began lip-syncing during his performances.  His first stage name was Kittin Withawhip, which was a play on the title of the 1964 film Kitten with a Whip, which featured Ann-Margret. The Half Drag Series that Leland Bobbé created included him and also his name. When Caldwell was just starting out in the drag world, he would perform with a bullwhip that was nine feet long.

As Caldwell began his career, he was a drag queen, which presented him with a number of difficulties. According to what he said, “It did not make me money or get me to work. It was somewhat expensive for me. Every Thursday, I would participate in this competition. The following one will be on Wednesday. Another one will be on Tuesday. I was never successful in any of them. Ever. I had to wait a few years before I was eventually successful. Participating in tournaments was incredibly addictive and enjoyable.” Caldwell made the transition to Bob the Drag Queen as his official stage name in the year 2013.
