Brad Kearns Bio, Life, and Career:
Brad Kearns, who was born on February 4, 1965, in Los Angeles, California, is a writer, podcast host, professional Speedgolfer, Masters’s high jumper, and former professional triathlete. From 1986 to 1995, Kearns competed in and won 31 international triathlon races. He is now ranked in the top 3 in the world at the Master’s age 55-59 high jump and in the top 20 in the world for professional Speedgolf. In 2018, Kearns set a new record for the quickest time to complete a single hole of golf.
Kearns decided to pursue a career in professional triathlon after working for KPMG for 11 weeks in downtown Los Angeles. In his nine years as a professional, he won the 1991 National Bud Light USTS Series/Coke Grand Prix Championship, the 1991 National Sprint Championship, the 1991 ITU Pan American Championship, and went undefeated for a total of seven seasons. He also finished 1991 ranked third in the world.
Kearns is currently focusing his competitive energy on the novel sport of Speedgolf, in which he has finished in the top 20 four times at the World Professional Speedgolf Championships. Players in Speedgolf competitions run the course at breakneck speeds while toting a minimal set of clubs. In Speedgolf, your final score is calculated by combining your time and strokes. Professionally competing in the late 1990s, Kearns had a top-ten finish at the 1996 World “Extreme Golf” Championships in San Diego. 18 years after his last professional competition, he got back into the game in 2014.
The 2014 World Speedgolf Championships were held at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, where he shot an 83 in 51 minutes for a Speedgolf score of 134.12. This ranked him in the 20th spot. On October 19-20, 2015, at the Glen Club in Chicago, Illinois, Kearns competed in the professional division of the World Speedgolf Championships and placed 20th. His total score after 36 holes was 289, which was not good. On October 17-18, 2016, at the Glen Club in Chicago, Illinois, Kearns competed in the professional division of the World Speedgolf Championships, where he finished in 19th position.
Brad Kearns has written a New York Times bestseller, set a Guinness World Record in professional Speedgolf, rated first in the United States among those aged 55 to 59 for high jumping and won a national title, and is ranked third in the world among professional triathletes. With an easygoing demeanor and a jovial sense of humor, he presents the B.rad podcast, where topics like fitness, peak performance, and self-improvement are discussed.
Brad is an accomplished author, lecturer, retreat leader, and online educator with more than two decades of experience in the fields of nutrition, health, peak performance, and ancestral living. His website, BradKearns.com, features a wide variety of multimedia courses. The Keto Reset Diet, written by Brian Wansink and published in 2017, quickly rose to the top of Amazon’s best-seller lists, spending two days in the top spot.
The central theme of Brad’s speech is the importance of constantly striving for personal bests in all aspects of life. He stresses the value of starting the day with exercise to increase stamina naturally, enhance strength, mobility, and flexibility, and cultivate mental fortitude and self-control.
Today I got to talk to Brad Kearns, a former US national champion in triathlon and high jump and current world record holder in professional speed golf. He is also the author of a New York Times bestseller. He discusses topics including fitness, nutrition, and self-improvement on his podcast, The B.Rad Podcast. We dug deep into the meaning of fitness and the western medical establishment’s cultural conditioning today.
The significance of not overtraining or training when under stress or ill, the function of stress hormones, and the value of an ancestral health viewpoint in relation to physical activity are all discussed. Nutritional orthodoxy was a hot topic of discussion, as was the overlap between certain dietary tenets and the value of critical thinking. I had a lot of fun creating this podcast and I think you will too. My aim is that this is the first of many conversations I have had with Brad Kearns. Enjoy.
C. Thurlow, Cynthia: The point is to seek out people with whom you can have stimulating conversations, right? I was listening to and seeing your morning routine and sprint workouts, talking with Abel James, and talking with Melanie as you got ready to have a chat. I know exactly what I’m committing to. West Coasters, I realize, are up early. Surely by now you’ve finished your morning rituals, walked the dog, and done everything else that has to be done.
