Following Weinstein’s email on May 23, 2017, in which he disagreed with the proposed “Day of Absence & Day of Presence,” in which white students and faculty were asked to leave campus for a day, a large group of students demonstrated outside his classroom. In response, he said he would be on campus that day. Weinstein taught biology at Washington’s Evergreen State University for the better part of three decades. As a result, he taught his biology class in a nearby park. In September of 2017, Weinstein and his wife, professor Heather Heying, agreed on a deal in which they both resigned and received payments.
