Carmelo Anthony Bio, Life, and Career:

Carmelo Kyam Anthony is an American professional basketball player who most recently competed for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Anthony was born on May 29, 1984, in the United States. He has been selected for the NBA All-Star Game ten times and has been named to the All-NBA Team six times. He participated in collegiate basketball with the Syracuse Orange, where he was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament in 2003, the year he was a freshman, and won the national championship for his team. He was selected for the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021 and is widely considered one of the most accomplished scorers in the annals of NBA competition.

Following his freshman year at Syracuse, Anthony decided to pursue a career in professional basketball and entered the 2003 NBA draft. The Denver Nuggets selected Anthony with the third overall pick in that draft. While he was a member of the Denver Nuggets, he guided the team to the postseason every year from 2004 to 2010, during which time it also won two division titles. Anthony guided the Nuggets to their first berth in the Conference Finals since 1985, which occurred in 2009.

In 2011, only a few days before the deadline for NBA trades, he was moved from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks. Anthony scored a career-high 62 points during a game against the Charlotte Bobcats on January 24, 2014. This performance not only set a record for the Knicks’ single-game scoring but also a record for the single-game scoring at Madison Square Garden. After a brief time with the Houston Rockets, Anthony was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder and played for them for one season before being dealt again. Before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was a member of the Portland Trail Blazers for a total of two seasons.

Anthony has set a record by participating in the Olympics a record four times for the United States national team. He has won a total of five medals, including a bronze medal in 2004 and gold medals in 2008, 2012, and 2016 respectively. As of April 2016, he held the position of all-time leader on the United States Olympic team in the categories of points, rebounds, and games played. He is presently ranked ninth on the list of all-time scorers in NBA history. Anthony was born in the Red Hook housing projects in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, in the United States of America.

His Puerto Rican mother and Puerto Rican father brought him into the world in Manhattan. His name is Carmelo Iriarte. Iriarte traced some of his ancestors back to Venezuela, in addition to having African, Spanish, and native origins in his family tree. His mother, Mary Anthony, was born in the United States of Africa. Anthony was just two years old when Iriarte passed away as a result of cancer. Anthony and his family relocated to Baltimore when he was eight years old.

During his first three years of high school, Anthony attended Towson Catholic High School despite it being located in Towson. Over the course of the summer of 1999, Anthony gained five inches, developing the physique of a 6’5″ swingman. All of a sudden, he rose to prominence as one of the best players in the area, and he established a name for himself in the community. In 2001, The Baltimore Sun named him the metro player of the year, and he also won the award for the best player in the Baltimore Catholic League.

During his sophomore season, he posted averages of 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game.[16] Towson Catholic made a strong run in the state tournament, finishing in third place with a record of 26–3 overall. Anthony’s junior year of high school basketball was a highlight of his athletic career. He nearly doubled his previous numbers in scoring and rebounds, finishing with an average of 23 points and 10.3 rebounds.[16] Anthony, in spite of his successful year, became distracted by all of the attention, and as a result, he skipped school multiple times, which led to his suspension.

Due to his frail build and lack of strength, professional scouts did not give him much consideration since they believed he was not prepared for the rigorous physical requirements of the NBA. He did not even make a blip on their radars. In the end, Towson Catholic was unable to win the state championship, despite the fact that he was recognized as the player of the year for Baltimore’s County, the all-metropolitan player of the year, and the player of the year for the Baltimore Catholic League.

After completing his junior year, a number of Division I coaches from schools on the East Coast, such as North Carolina and Syracuse, were interested in recruiting Anthony to play for them. In contrast to contemporaneous prep-to-pro stars like Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, or Amar’e Stoudemire, he made the decision to declare early and announce that he will attend Syracuse University prior to his senior year. He did this because he wanted to avoid the pressure of having to make a decision during his senior year.

Anthony realized that in order to meet the academic requirements for Syracuse University, he needed to improve his performance in the classroom since his grades fell below a C average and his ACT scores were below the minimum level considered acceptable. When he was entering his senior year, his mother was thinking of changing the school that he attended. At first, Anthony considered enrolling at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia; but, after having a conversation with Steve Smith, the head coach of the basketball powerhouse Oak Hill Academy, he ultimately decided to transfer to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia for his senior season.

Oak Hill Academy was the winner of the USA Today 2000–01 high school championship. Anthony was the captain of an AAU Baltimore Select team that made it all the way to the Final Four of the Adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the summer of 2001. Anthony’s performance at the tournament, in which he averaged 25.2 points per game, drew the attention of NBA scouts. Amar’e Stoudemire, who also participated in the tournament, was already being talked about as a potential future lottery choice.

Anthony competed in the USA Basketball Youth Development Festival, where he was a member of the East Team and contributed to their success in winning the silver medal. He scored 24 points per game, which tied him with LeBron James for the scoring lead in the tournament, and he shot 66 percent from the field. That restaurant is when Anthony and James first became acquainted with one another.
