Carrie Underwood Bio, Life, and Career:
Carrie Marie Underwood is a famous American singer who came to public attention after she won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. She was born on March 10, 1983, in the United States. With the release of her single “Inside Your Heaven,” Carrie Underwood became the first and only solo country singer in the 2000s to have a song reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
She also became the only country artist to ever debut at the top of the chart. The breakthrough crossover singles “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats” helped propel her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), to the position of best-selling solo female debut album in the history of country music. The album was released in 2005. She took home three Grammys, including one for “Best New Artist,” in recognition of the record.
The subsequent studio album, Carnival Ride (2007), was nominated for two Grammy Awards and had one of the most successful opening weeks ever for a release by a female artist. Her third studio album, which was titled Play On (2009), was responsible for the production of the single “Cowboy Casanova,” which was responsible for one of the most significant single-week upward jumps on the Hot 100.
Blown Away (2012), which was her fourth studio album, earned her a Grammy Award and helped her achieve the position of being the second best-selling release by a female artist in 2012. The crossover hit “Something in the Water” was born from her compilation Greatest Hits: Decade #1 (2014), which was released in 2014. With the release of her fifth studio album, Storyteller (2015), she became the only country artist to have all five of their studio albums debut at either number one or number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
She is the only female artist to have topped the Billboard 200 with four different country albums, and her sixth album, Cry Pretty (2018), had the largest week of sales for any album released by a female artist in 2018. In 2020, she published her first Christmas album titled “My Gift,” and in 2021, she released her first gospel collection titled “My Savior.” Denim & Rhinestones, the studio album that she released in 2022, signaled her return to her country music sound.
Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983, in the city of Muskogee, Oklahoma, to her parents, Carole (née Shatswell), and Steve Underwood. She is the youngest of her parents’ three children and has two older sisters named Shanna and Stephanie. She was brought up on the farm her parents own in the surrounding rural town of Checotah.
While her mother was a teacher, her father worked in a paper mill. Her father also worked in the mill. When Underwood was a child, she sang at the First Free Will Baptist Church and participated in the Robbins Memorial Talent Show. Both of these events took place in her hometown. She later performed her singing at a number of community events in Checotah, including Old Settler’s Day and the Lions Club.
Midway through the season of American Idol in 2004, Carrie Underwood performed “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. Her audition took place in St. Louis, Missouri. Simon Cowell made the remark that she would be one of the favorites to win the competition after she performed “Could’ve Been” by Tiffany on the Top 12 girls’ night. He was impressed by her performance.
During the performance of the top 11 finalists on the episode of Idol that aired on March 22, 2005, Carrie Underwood sang a version of the number one rock hit of the 1980s, “Alone,” which was made famous by Heart. After hearing Underwood’s performance, Simon Cowell prophesied that she would not only win the competition but would also outsell all of the previous winners of Idol. Later, one of the show’s producers commented that she had a commanding lead in the vote and had won each week by a significant majority.
During the course of the show, she amassed a following of supporters who came to be known as “Carrie’s Care Bears.” She performed “Bless the Broken Road” alongside Rascal Flatts during the finale of the competition. On May 25, 2005, Underwood was crowned the victor of the fourth season of the competition. Her prizes consisted of a recording contract with an estimated value of at least one million dollars, the use of a private jet for an entire year, and a Ford Mustang convertible.
