Charlize Theron Bio, Life, and Career:
Charlize Theron (/rliz rn/share-LEEZ THERR-n; Afrikaans: [arlis trn]; born August 7, 1975) is a South African actress and producer who also works in the United States. In addition to being one of the highest-paid actresses in the world, she has also been honored with a number of prestigious awards, such as an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She was recognized by Time as one of the 100 most important persons in the world in the year 2016.
During the 1990s, Theron rose to popularity on a worldwide scale as a result of her roles as the protagonist in three Hollywood films: Mighty Joe Young (1998), The Devil’s Advocate (1997), and The Cider House Rules (1999). She became the first South African to win an acting Oscar for her performance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film Monster (2003), for which she won both the Silver Bear and the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos earned her plaudits from the film’s critics. She was nominated for an additional Academy Award for her performance as a woman who had been sexually molested and was looking for justice in the drama North Country (2005).On August 7, 1975, Theron was born in Benoni, which is located in what was formerly the province of Transvaal in South Africa but is now known as Gauteng Province.
She is the sole child of her parents, who work in road construction. Gerda (née Maritz)as well as Charles Theron (born 27 November 1947 and passed away 21 June 1991). Danie Theron, a prominent military figure during the Second Boer War, was her great-grand-uncle. Her family is of Afrikaner descent, and in addition to French and German heritage, she also has Dutch and French lineage.
Her French ancestors settled in South Africa quite early on and were members of the Huguenot faith. The surname “Theron” comes from the Occitan language and was originally spelled Théron. She spent her childhood in Benoni, close to Johannesburg, on the property that belonged to her parents. On June 21, 1991, Charlize Theron and her mother were both threatened by her alcoholic father, who at the time was in a drunken state.
While he was intoxicated, Charlize’s father physically assaulted her mother and fired a gun at both of them. After retrieving her own firearm, Theron’s mother fired back against the assailant, ultimately resulting in his death. A court ruled that her mother was justified in using deadly force to defend herself, and she was not prosecuted for the shooting. Theron first traveled to Los Angeles in 1994 with the intention of pursuing a career in the film industry.
Her mother had purchased a one-way plane ticket for her. During the first several months that she was there, she resided in a motel with a budget of $300 that her mother had given her; she continued to get cheques from New York and lived “from paycheck to paycheck” to the point that she stole bread from a basket in a restaurant in order to survive.
On a certain day, she went to a bank on Hollywood Boulevard in order to cash a few checks, one of which was a contribution toward the rent that her mother had sent. However, it was turned down because it was submitted from another state and she was not a citizen of the United States. Theron protested and begged the bank teller until talent agent John Crosby, who was the next customer in line behind her, cashed it for her and handed her his business card. Crosby was the person in line after Theron.
Crosby was the one who suggested that Theron attend an acting school, and a year later, she made her debut in the horror film Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest as a character who did not speak. Her first speaking part was as the hitwoman Helga Svelgen in the film 2 Days in the Valley (1996). Despite the fact that the film received mixed reviews, attention was drawn to Theron due to her beauty and the scene in which she fought Teri Hatcher’s character.
Theron was concerned that she might be typecast in roles that were identical to Helga, and she noted that during auditions she was requested to recreate her performance in the film: “A lot of people were telling me, ‘You should simply hit it while the iron’s hot.’ However, if you play the same part over and over again, you won’t have any longevity in your career. And I was aware that it was going to be more challenging for me, due to the fact that I look a certain way, to expand out to many types of roles.
