He started taking Tang Soo Do classes and eventually attained the rank of black belt.

After moving back to the United States, he maintained his position as an air policeman at the ‘March Air Force Base’ in California. After being discharged from the military in 1962, he immediately began working for the “Northrop Corporation.” During the 1960s, he established a string of karate schools in a number of different locations around the country.

As a teacher, he enjoyed widespread renown and counted among his pupils a number of famous people, such as Steve McQueen, Bob Barker, and Priscilla Presley, among others. In addition to that, he competed in a number of different martial arts contests. It was Joe Lewis and Allen Steen, respectively, who defeated him in the first two competitions he entered. In addition, he was defeated by Tony Tulleners in all three of the matches he competed in at the “International Karate Championships.”

Despite this, he refused to give up the fight. After receiving encouragement from the famous actor and former student Steve McQueen, he made the decision to attempt acting. It was in the 1969 film ‘The Wrecking Crew’ that he made his first appearance as an actor. However, his contribution was not recognised. During a display of martial arts in Long Beach, he had the opportunity to meet the famous martial artist Bruce Lee.
