The film, in which Cunningham also starred, received over two dozen “Best Of” awards and nominations, and in addition to being considered for an Academy Award, it became the first short film to win over two dozen “Best Of” awards and nominations. A number of film festivals, such as the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Jackson Hole International Film Festival, the Montreal World Film Festival, Short Film Corner (Cannes), Best of Shorts Film Festival (France), and the Canadian Film Center (CFC), all named the movie to their respective Top Ten Lists.

Centigrade is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful short films that have ever been produced, and it is currently in the process of being adapted for use on television.
