Colin Morgan Bio, Life and Career:

Colin Morgan is a Northern Irish actor who has worked in film, television, theater, and radio. He attended Integrated College Dungannon, where he was awarded the “Denis Rooney Associates Cup” for being the best overall student in the third year. He then attended the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education, where he received a National Diploma in Performing Arts in the year 2004.

After that, he continued his education at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, from where he received his diploma in the year 2007. Morgan was presented with an Award of Distinction from the Belfast Metropolitan College in recognition of his significant contributions to the artistic community in November of 2010. Morgan has appeared in main roles in The Catherine Tate Show (2007), Doctor Who (2008), Quirke (2014), The Fall (2014-2016), and Humans.

Morgan is best known for his role as the title character in the BBC fantasy series Merlin (2008-12). He also played the lead in the BBC miniseries The Living and the Dead (2016) as the gentleman farmer Nathan Appleby, the central character of the story (2015-2016). Additionally, he is well-known for his performance on stage as Ariel in the play The Tempest. Morgan made his debut on the professional stage in the West End in 2007 in an adaption of the dark comedy that was first performed at the Young Vic the previous year.

He played the title role of Vernon God Little. In the same year, he went on to play the role of Esteban, an aspiring teenage writer, in the stage adaption of Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother at the Old Vic, opposite Dame Diana Rigg, Lesley Manville, and Mark Gatiss. All About My Mother was written by Pedro Almodóvar. Because of his work in both of these roles, Morgan was considered a candidate for the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Newcomer of the Year in London in the year 2007.

After that, he had roles in productions such as “A Prayer for My Daughter” by Thomas Babe (2008), “Our Private Life” by Pedro Miguel Rozo (2011), and “Step in Time” at The Old Vic 24 Hour Musicals Celebrity Gala (2012). In the production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest that took place at the Globe Theater in 2013, he gave the role of the fey spirit Ariel opposite Roger Allam’s performance as Prospero.

This production was later shown in theaters as part of the Globe On Screen series in May 2014, and a DVD release of the play followed in July 2014. Morgan wanted his rendition of Ariel to have both an ethereal serenity and an acrobatic accuracy so that it could do justice to the character. Morgan had a role in the dark comedy Mojo by Jez Butterworth, which ran at the Harold Pinter Theater from 2013 to 2014.

His character was named Skinny Luke. Brendan Coyle, Ben Whishaw, Rupert Grint, and Daniel Mays were among of the actors who participated in the ensemble cast. After receiving positive feedback, the Mojo production in London was prolonged for a further two weeks, and it came to a close on February 8, 2014. Morgan made an appearance at the Old Vic Theater on April 19, 2015, alongside other music and stage legends for an exclusive and highly anticipated one-night theater event dubbed A Gala in Honor of Kevin Spacey.

The event was themed “A Gala in Honor of Kevin Spacey.” Morgan was given the title of “Star of Tomorrow” by Screen International in July of 2008, with other performers such as Carey Mulligan. In the article, he was described as “hailed as the most intriguing drama-school graduate since Ben Whishaw.” Morgan received the Outstanding Newcomer award in 2008 from the Variety Club Showbiz Awards.

He was also nominated for Outstanding Actor (Drama) in the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards in 2009, 2010, and 2011, the Best Actor award in the Virgin Media TV Awards in 2012, and the prestigious Best Actor in Drama Performance: Male award in the National Television Awards in 2013. All of these accolades were bestowed upon Morgan for his performance in the television series Merlin.

In the same year, the performance that Morgan gave as Ariel in The Tempest earned him the title of Best Featured Actor in a New Production of a Play at the Broadway World West End Awards. Parked (2010), Island (2011), Testament of Youth (2015), Legend (2015), The Laughing King (2016), and The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016) are some of the films in which Morgan has appeared as an actor (2016). In addition, he played the lead role of Paul Ashton in the British coming-of-age film Waiting for You (2016), which was shot in France and England.

He will also play the role of Lord Alfred “Bosie” Douglas in the Oscar Wilde biopic The Happy Prince (2017), which will be written and directed by Rupert Everett.
