Dasha Nekrasova Bio, Life and Career:

Dasha Nekrasova was born on February 19, 1991, and is a Belarusian-American actress, filmmaker, and co-host of the Red Scare podcast with Anna Khachiyan.  is a producer and director. In 2018, she became known as “Sailor Socialism,” after her interview with an InfoWars reporter, in which she was dressed in a sailor fuku, went viral.  In 2021, she made her directorial debut with the horror film The Scary of Sixty-First, for which she won the Best First Feature Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The same year, she also appeared in a recurring role on the television series Succession, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild award along with the cast.

Both of these accomplishments earned her awards from the Berlin International Film Festival. Nekrasova was born in Minsk, Belarus (which was still a part of the Soviet Union at the time of her birth), to acrobatic parents. When she was four years old, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, with her parents after the family immigrated to the United States. She received her high school diploma from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts in 2008 and then went on to study sociology and philosophy at Mills College after attending that institution for her secondary education.

Before making her debut in a feature film with Wobble Palace, which she co-wrote with the film’s director Eugene Kotlyarenko, Nekrasova first appeared in music videos for alternative artists such as Yumi Zouma.  The film was directed by Kotlyarenko. While RogerEbert.com noted that “while your comedic mileage with its loose goofiness may vary, this movie succeeds in contributing a filmic time capsule” for millennials, The New York Times referred to the movie as “a sendup of broke-artist types that shimmers with abashed affection.”

Additionally, The New York Times called the movie “a sendup of broke-artist types that shimmers with abashed affection.”  She played the leading role in the dark comedy titled “The Softness of Bodies,” and The Hollywood Reporter said that she “effortlessly” inhabited the role. Her interview with the right-wing media outlet InfoWars became an internet sensation while she was attending the 2018 South by Southwest Festival to promote Wobble Palace. She was given the nickname “Sailor Socialism” as a result of the fact that she showed her support for Bernie Sanders while dressed in an outfit resembling that of Sailor Moon worn by Japanese schoolgirls.

During one of John Oliver’s episodes of Last Week Tonight, this clip was shown as part of a segment that focused on Venezuela. Together with co-host Anna Khachiyan, Nekrasova launched their podcast on March 29, 2018, under the name Red Scare. There is a perception that the show is associated with the dirty left.  The article “a critique of feminism, and capitalism, from deep inside the culture they’ve spawned” referred to it as such.

According to Daily Dot, the show’s “schtick” can be summed up as “when hot mean girls become public leftists.” Simone Norman is a former congressional staffer who provided this description. Nekrasova made her debut as a runway model in February 2019 at the Marlborough art gallery in Manhattan, which was showcasing the Fall 2019 collection designed by Rachel Comey. Khachiyan also made an appearance at the event alongside Nekrasova. The Scary of Sixty-First was Nekrasova’s first film as a director, and it was released in the year 2020.

Nekrasova and Madeline Quinn wrote the thriller together, and it was motivated by the passing of Jeffrey Epstein.  The film was given the award for Best First Feature at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival, where it also had its world premiere. Later on, in that same year, Nekrasova co-wrote the short film Spectacular Reality, which was inspired by conspiracies surrounding crisis actors and featured models from No Agency New York.

She also directed the video performance of Oneohtrix Point Never’s “I Don’t Love Me Anymore” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which aired on November 6, 2020. In November 2021, Nekrasova published on Instagram a photo of herself posing alongside Alex Jones, the host of Infowars. Nekrasova later referred to Jones as “an incredible entertainer” in an episode of her podcast titled Red Scare. Daniel Lopatin, a musician better known by his stage name Oneohtrix Point Never, was Nekrasova’s boyfriend at one point. She was the host of the podcast Cum Town, which has since been retired, and she is currently the host of The Adam Friedland Show. She was previously engaged to the comedian Adam Friedland.
