Dave Grohl Bio, Life and Career:
American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Dave Grohl is a member of the band Foo Fighters. He began playing the guitar at a very young age and has self-taught himself the majority of the instrument since then. Later on, he taught himself how to play the drums, and he credits John Banham as being his primary inspiration.
Grohl was a member of the grunge band Nirvana from 1990 to 1994 when the band disbanded after the death of its lead vocalist, Kurt Cobain. Grohl currently plays the drums for the band Foo Fighters. Following the unexpected dissolution of ‘Nirvana,’ he moved on to start his own band, which is now known as ‘Foo Fighters.’
In addition to that, he was one of the co-founders of the rock supergroup known as “Them Crooked Vultures,” in which he played the drums and sang backing vocals. Grohl is also skilled in the piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and electric guitar, among other instruments. His band, Foo Fighters, has participated in a variety of charitable events throughout the years, including the “Citizen Festival” and the “Concert for Sandy Relief,” amongst others. Grohl is an advocate for equal rights for gays and lesbians.
In recognition of his contributions to the community of Warren, Ohio, he was awarded the key to the city in 2009. In addition to that, there is a street named after he called “David Grohl Alley,” and on that street, murals of him have been painted. He was born to James Grohl and his wife Virginia Grohl on January 14, 1969, in Warren, Ohio, in the United States of America. When he was 6 years old, his parents got a divorce, and from then on, his mother was responsible for raising him.
When he was twelve years old, he began studying the guitar, but he did not enjoy the lessons that he was given. As a consequence of this, he decided to teach himself and started playing in bands with his friends. Punk rock was first brought to his attention by his cousin Tracy, who took him to see a variety of punk band performances across the state of Illinois during one of his summer vacations. It was in Chicago that he attended his first live performance, which was a punk rock band from Chicago named “Naked Raygun.”
After enrolling at the Virginia high school known as ‘Thomas Jefferson High School,’ he quickly rose through the ranks to become the class vice president. His grades suffered as a result of his addiction to drugs, so his mother decided to move him to ‘Bishop Ireton High School,’ which is located in Alexandria. He attended the institution for a total of two years before moving on to ‘Annandale High School’ in Virginia.
During his time in high school, he was an active member of a number of local bands, one of which was called ‘Freak Baby.’ During this time, he taught himself to play the drums on his own.
When he was in his late teens, he was a frequent patron of the establishment known as “The 9.30 Club.” It was a live music event venue in Washington, District of Columbia, which ended up having a significant impact on his life.At the age of seventeen, he participated in an audition and was chosen as the drummer for a hardcore punk band called “Scream.” As a result, he left high school during his junior year in order to pursue his musical career. He spent a lot of time on the road with the band and participated in the recording of a number of live albums with them, of which ‘No More Censorship’ and ‘Fumble’ became quite successful.
In the late 1990s, the band ‘Scream’ broke up, and shortly thereafter, he traveled to Seattle to try out for a role in the band ‘Nirvana.’ After being chosen, he became a permanent member of the band, and shortly thereafter, they were offered a recording contract by a prominent label known as ‘DGC Records.’ After that, the band went on to record and then release their debut studio album, titled “Nevermind.”
In the meantime, because he was dissatisfied with his role in the band as a failing drummer, he began writing the words and music for all of his songs on his own. Under the alias Late!, he compiled and published his own cassette, titled “Pocketwatch,” on the independent label Simple Machines in the year 1992. In addition to this, he played drums for the solo EP that was released by Buzz Osborne.
At the Seattle recording studio known as “Robert Lang Studios,” he and Krist Novoselic of the band Nirvana worked on a number of demos before setting out on their tour of Europe in the year 1994. Later on, they made a demo recording of the song ‘You know you’re Right,’ which turned out to be the band’s final studio recording.
When Kurt Cobain passed away in April of 1994, ‘Nirvana’ came to an end as a band. In October, he went into the ‘Robert Lang Studio’ in Seattle and recorded a 15-track demo, during which he performed all of the instruments by himself.
