David Bashevkin Bio, Life, and Career:

David Bashevkin, also spelled Dovid Bashevkin, is a rabbi, writer, professor, and podcast host who was born in the United States on February 15, 1985. He currently resides in New York. At the moment, he serves in the role of Director of Education at NCSY, a youth group affiliated with the Orthodox Union.  Bashevkin is a school of law alumnus of DRS HALB (Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys).  In 2006, he attended Ner Israel Rabbinical College and received his bachelor’s degree in Talmudic Studies from there.

After completing his rabbinic ordination at Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, he went on to earn a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Polish Hassidut from Yeshiva University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies under the tutelage of Yaakov Elman in 2010. This degree was awarded in 2010. Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School were where he pursued his doctoral education in Public Policy and Management from 2013 until 2022.

His area of concentration was crisis management during this time.  Before becoming the director of education for NCSY, Bashevkin began his academic career from 2010 to 2013 serving as the associate director of education at NCSY, the youth branch of the Orthodox Union. In 2013, he was promoted to the position of director of education for the organization. As the head of NCSY, he has been in charge of numerous youth seminars and events, and he has also established curriculums for both the staff and the teenagers.

Between the years 2010 and 2011, Bashevkin held the position of adjunct professor at Long Island University.  At the present time, he is a professor at Yeshiva University, where he works in both the Isaac Breuer College of Hebraic Studies and the Sy Syms School of Business. His areas of expertise include public policy, religious crisis, and rabbinic philosophy.  In his humorous column for Mishpacha magazine, which was dubbed “Top 5”, Bashevkin compiled a list of the peculiarities and intricacies that are associated with Jewish culture.  Additionally, he has penned articles for the publication Tablet that discuss tractates of the Talmud in light of how they have been presented in the Daf Yomi series. [ Take One with Liel Leibovitz is the title of a podcast that Bashevkin created for Tablet Daf Yomi and hosted.

In the year 2020, Bashevkin introduced the 18Forty podcast with the intention of addressing classic Jewish concerns within a contemporary setting. The podcasts are arranged in a topical fashion, and each topic features anything from two to four speakers. Biblical criticism, “Off the Derech,” and Jewish mysticism have all been covered in previous episodes, and guests like Gary Gulman, Moshe Weinberger, and Jeremy England have been on the show in the past. David Bashevkin is the director of education for NCSY, the youth movement of the Orthodox Union. He is also an instructor at Yeshiva University, where he teaches courses on public politics, religious crises, and rabbinic thinking. NCSY is the youth organization of the Orthodox Union.
