David Herman Bio, Life, and Career:
David Herman is a well-known American actor and comedian. He was born on February 20, 1967, in the United States. Between the years 1995 and 1997, he was a member of the original cast of MADtv. He is also known for his role as Michael Bolton in the film Office Space. His voice has been heard in countless episodes of popular animated series such as Bob’s Burgers, Brickleberry, Futurama, King of the Hill, and OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, Disenchantment, and Father of the Pride are some of the games that you can play.
Herman was reared in the neighborhood of Washington Heights in Manhattan after being born in New York City to a Jewish family. After receiving his diploma from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in 1985, he enrolled in the acting department at SUNY Purchase. He went on to have a successful acting career.
In 1994, Herman was a member of the cast of the ill-fated series House of Buggin’, which was created by John Leguizamo. Herman was one of the nine original cast members of MADtv when the program first aired in 1995. This came about as a result of the decision made by Fox to replace House of Buggin’ with a sketch comedy show when the network opted to terminate the show.
Herman, in contrast to most of the other main actors, already had an established acting career prior to joining the program (as did fellow cast member Phil LaMarr). Prior to joining the show, he had roles in the movies Born on the Fourth of July, Lost Angels, and Let It Be Me. Herman’s MADtv personas included concerned parent Joel Linder and Generation X anchorman Marsh (X News). Mike Lawson, from Incredible Findings, was another one of Herman’s MADtv characters.
Herman made fun of a number of celebrities and well-known figures, including Don Adams (as Maxwell Smart from Get Smart), Tim Allen (as Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor from Home Improvement), Woody Allen, Nicolas Cage, Bill Clinton, Bob Dole, David Duchovny (as Fox Mulder from The X-Files), Larry Flynt, Tom Hanks (as Forrest Gump and as Jim Lovell from Apollo 13), Larry King, Kenny Kingston,
Herman remained a cast member of the show until the sixth episode of the third season when he announced his departure. In 2019, he stated that he desired to quit the program in order to work on other projects, but Fox would not release him from his contract because they believed he was too valuable to the show. As a result, Herman got himself fired by yelling all of his lines during read-throughs, which caused Fox to terminate him. While he was working on the voice acting for King of the Hill, he came across the script for Office Space.
King of the Hill creator Mike Judge had written the part of Michael Bolton in Office Space with Herman in mind precisely when he wrote the part. Despite the fact that he is most known for his work in television, Herman has appeared in a number of films, some of which include Fun with Dick and Jane and Dude, Where’s My Car? In the 1999 comedy film Office Space, Herman portrayed the part of a gangsta rap-loving nerd who, regrettably, was given the name Michael Bolton and had to suffer questions about his relationship with the famous musician. He had a role in Idiocracy, which was directed by Mike Judge and released in 2006.
Herman is also well-known for his work as a voice actor in cartoons and video games, most notably in the animated series Futurama, in which he provides the voices of many recurring characters (including Scruffy, Planet Express’s Sling Blade-esque janitor; Roberto, the mentally-deranged criminal robot obsessed with stabbing people; Mayor Poopenmeyer of New York City; and Professor Farnsworth’s former student and current rival, Ogden Wernstrom In addition to his work on Family Guy and American Dad!, Herman has also lent his voice to the CGI-animated sitcom Father of the Pride and the Jak and Daxter video game series.
In Father of the Pride, Herman provides the voice for the character Roy Horn. On Mike Judge’s short-lived companion series to King of the Hill called The Goode Family, Herman starred as Ubuntu Goode and also provided voices for other supporting characters.
In addition, he is the voice of Mr. Frond (and other supporting voices) on Bob’s Burgers, which airs on Fox, as well as Mr. Gar, Brandon, and other characters on OK K.O.!, which airs on Cartoon Network. Let’s Be Heroes, The Herald, and other characters on Matt Groening’s Netflix series Disenchantment, the self-absorbed and potentially incompetent park ranger Steve Williams on Comedy Central’s Brickleberry, and Kevin Crawford on Paradise PD. Let’s Be Heroes is an animated sitcom created by Matt Groening.
