After she received her diploma, she enrolled in ‘Santa Ana College’ to pursue a degree in drama. Later on, she enrolled at ‘Orange Coast College,’ but she left after only a short while to enroll in the full-time acting conservatory at ‘Neighborhood Playhouse’ in New York. After becoming a member of the “Actors’ Equity Association,” she went ahead and changed her name to “Diane Keaton,” taking on the surname that had been passed down to her by her mother.

She gave a few singing performances at various nightclubs during that time period. In 1968, she was cast in a role in the Broadway rock musical ‘Hair.’ She was supposed to execute the nudist portion of her act at the end of ‘Act I,’ but she flatly refused to do it.

She gave a performance in the successful Broadway stage comedy “Play It Again, Sam” which was written by Woody Allen in 1969. As a result of her work in the play, she was recognized with a nomination for a Tony Award. The following year, she made her debut in the film industry with the role of ‘Joan Vecchio’ in the comedy film ‘Lovers and Other Strangers.’ In addition, she has appeared as a guest artist on several episodes of television programs, including “Love, American Style” and “Night Gallery.”

She gave a performance as ‘Renata Wallinger’ in the 1971 short film titled ‘Men of Crisis: The Harvey Wallinger Story.’ Following that, she made guest appearances on two other television programs, namely “The F.B.I.” and “Mannix.”
