Dustin Hoffman Bio, Life and Career:

Acclaimed American actor Dustin Hoffman was born in Los Angeles, California, in the United States on August 8, 1937. He is most recognized for his various performances of antiheroes and weak types throughout his career. In spite of his lack of height and his unattractive appearance, he was instrumental in establishing a new tradition in Hollywood: that of the average-looking yet emotionally volatile leading man.

After dropping out of Santa Monica City College in California to pursue a career in acting at the age of 19, Hoffman had previously studied music there. After that, he relocated to New York City, where he worked a variety of low-paying jobs for many years until he was finally able to get supporting roles on television and major roles Off-Broadway, where he was nominated for an Obie Award.

Following his performance in the forgettable comedy The Tiger Makes Out (1967), Mike Nichols chose Dustin Hoffman in his second film, The Graduate (1967), choosing him over contemporaries Robert Redford and Charles Grodin for the role. Hoffman was 30 years old when he played the role of the 21-year-old Benjamin Braddock. Benjamin Braddock is an upper-middle-class college graduate who, in a search for a meaningful future, aimlessly drifts into an affair with a married woman who is the age of his parents.

Hoffman played the role of Benjamin Braddock when he was 21 years old. It was a highly popular social comedy, and it hit a chord with younger viewers who were disgusted with the American establishment. As a result, Hoffman was catapulted to the forefront of the entertainment industry. In the film Midnight Cowboy, directed by John Schlesinger and nominated for an Academy Award for best picture that year.

Dustin Hoffman plays the role of “Ratso” Rizzo, a tuberculous homeless man who forms a relationship with a failed male prostitute (played by Jon Voight). Another one of Hoffman’s films that turned out to be successful, despite the fact that it was gloomy and depressing in its portrayal of a soulless New York City.

The actor transitioned into the 1970s playing a wide variety of antiheroes, including a powerless witness to Native American genocide in Little Big Man (1970), a cowardly mathematician who violently defends his home in Straw Dogs (1971), the self-destructive comic Lenny Bruce in Lenny (1974), and an ex-convict who cannot resist the lure of crime in Straight Time (1974). Little Big Man was released in 1970.

In the same decade, Hoffman also played journalist Carl Bernstein in the film All the President’s Men. In the film, Bernstein and Bob Woodward (played by Robert Redford) investigate the Watergate affair (1976). Hoffman finally won a best actor award for his sympathetic portrayal of a divorced single father in the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer.

He earned another nomination for the 1982 film Tootsie, in which he played an unemployed actor who, while masquerading as a woman, finds steady employment on a daytime soap opera. Hoffman had previously been nominated for the Oscar thrice, and he had previously been nominated for the award. In the 1980s, Hoffman had two successful theatrical comebacks that helped propel him to stardom.

First, there was his critically acclaimed turn as Willy Loman in the 1984 Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. This performance was adapted for television by CBS the following year, and Hoffman was honored with both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for his work in this production. He was always keen to chose hard parts for himself, and his next performance was on stage in London as Shylock in a production of The Merchant of Venice directed by Sir Peter Hall (1989).

In recognition of his achievements in the film industry during the decade, Hoffman was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as a middle-aged autistic genius in the movie Rain Man (1988). In a manner similar to Hoffman’s previous portrayals, Raymond Babbitt from Rain Man is a tough character to embrace due to the fact that he is emotionless; nonetheless, the actor extracts just the perfect amount of pity from an audience.

After a string of underwhelming performances in high-profile Hollywood productions such as “Hook” (1991), “Billy Bathgate” (1991), “Hero” (1992), “Outbreak” (1995), and “Sphere” (1998), the actor returned to form with his portrayal of a sleazy, fame-hungry Hollywood producer in “Wag the Dog” (1997), a biting political satire that earned Hoffman his seventh nomination for an Academy Award.

The film After that, he featured in the French production of Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999) as the grand inquisitor, and in 2003, he was in the courtroom thriller Runaway Jury. In 2004, he co-starred with Lily Tomlin in the comedy I Heart Huckabees, which is about a husband-and-wife investigative team that helps customers solve their existential issues, and with Robert De Niro in the wide comedy Meet the Fockers.

Both of these films were released that year. In the years that followed, Hoffman went on to star in such films as Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, a children’s fantasy film, and Stranger Than Fiction (2006). In the movie “Last Chance Harvey,” Hoffman and his co-star from “Stranger Than Fiction,” Emma Thompson, portrayed two lonely outsiders who end up falling in love (2008).

He played the same character from Meet the Fockers in the film’s sequel, Little Fockers (2010), and he subsequently featured as the father of the lead character in the comedic drama Barney’s Version (2010). In addition to that, Hoffman has provided his voice for the computer-animated movies The Tale of Despereaux (2008), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), and Kung Fu Panda 3 (2011).
