Elisabetta Maria Dami is an Italian author of children’s books. She is most known for being the one who came up with the idea for the character Geronimo Stilton. Dami was born on January 1, 1958. Piero Dami, a publisher, is Dami’s father. Dami is his daughter (who founded Dami Editore in 1972).

She entered the publishing industry at the age of thirteen, working as a proofreader for the company that her family owned, and by the time she was nineteen, she had written her first short stories. At the age of 20, she became licensed as a pilot for planes and as a parachutist. Three years later, at the age of 23, she embarked on an independent trip across the world and finished a well-known survival course at the Outward Bound School in Maine, which is located in the United States.

She competed in the 100-kilometer Sahara ultramarathon and ran three New York City marathons, and she also took part in a rally in the Sahara desert and drove across Africa from north to south in an off-road vehicle. Dami has also participated in a number of other exciting adventures (in 2002, 2003, and 2017). Dami was devastated when she learned in 1990 that she would never be able to have children. She started volunteering at a children’s hospital not long after the event occurred.
