Eric Bana Bio, Life, and Career:

Actor and comedian Eric Banadinovi, or Eric Bana, is an Australian native. He began his career as a TV comedian before moving into film. Eric Bana rose to fame after a stunning performance in the dark drama film “Chopper,” which also won him opportunities to feature in Hollywood films. Bana had previously starred in various Australian sketch-comedy series, including “The Eric Bana Show.” Beginning his career on the comedy series “Full Frontal,” he went on to win critical acclaim for his performances in the films “The Hulk” (directed by Ang Lee) and “Black Hawk Down” (directed by Ridley Scott).

He was able to establish himself as an original voice in the media landscape. Following his Oscar-winning turn in the epic picture “Troy,” he starred in several critically acclaimed films including Steven Spielberg’s thriller “Munich,” further solidifying his reputation as a seasoned performer. In ‘The Other Boleyn Girl and ‘Star Trek,’ he played the roles of Henry VIII and Nero, respectively, which increased his fame. The seasoned performer and comic has won the biggest honors in Australian cinema and television.

On August 9, 1968, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Eric Bana entered the world. He grew up in the Tullamarine region of Melbourne. Both his father Ivan and mother Eleanor worked in the beauty industry; Ivan was a logistics manager for “Caterpillar, Inc.” His older brother’s name is Anthony, and he is his older sibling.

His mother came from the German city of Mannheim, and his father was a Croat of South Slavic descent. Eric mentioned in an interview that his family was the target of racist slurs and the term “wog.”

He had an early interest in the entertainment industry thanks to comedian Richard Pryor. Even at the tender age of six, he was imitating his grandfather and his teachers. His educational background includes time at both Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School. He was so devoted to fast cars that at age 14, he almost dropped out of school to become a mechanic, but his father persuaded him to stay in class. He spent A$1100 (then a lot of money) on a 1974 Ford Falcon coupé when he was 15 years old. While still a teenager, he saw Mel Gibson’s ‘Mad Max and knew then and there that acting was the path for him.

It wasn’t until 1991, when he was working as a barman at Melbourne’s “Castle Hotel,” that he was convinced to pursue acting professionally, despite his lifelong enthusiasm. He kept working as a bartender and server because his stand-up routines at Australian clubs did not earn him any money. Initially successful and well-liked as a stand-up comedian, Eric Bana went on to appear in a number of guest spots on a variety of sketch comedy shows on television. His first appearance on television was on the late-night chat show “Tonight Live” in 1993. Later that year, he was hired on to write and act in an episode of the sketch comedy show Full Frontal. For the show’s whole four seasons, he was responsible for the scripting and many of the characters were based on members of his own family.

In 1997, thanks to his talents, he launched his own stand-up comedy program. He hosted and performed in his own variety show, “The Eric Bana Show,” which featured skits, stand-up, and cameos from famous actors. However, low ratings led to the show’s cancellation after only eight episodes.

A short time later, he made the jump to the big screen, and his first major role was as Mark “Chopper” Read in Andrew Dominik’s film Chopper (2000). It was inspired by the real-life criminal exploits of Australia’s Chopper Read. After being famous throughout Australia, Eric Bana set his sights on making it big in the United States. The film “Black Hawk Down,” directed by Ridley Scott, in which he appeared as an American sergeant, was the appropriate time and place for him to break out. The 2001 film depicting an American military mission in Somalia was nominated for an Academy Award.

With director Ang Lee’s invitation to play Dr. Bruce Banner in the film adaptation of Marvel Comics’ The Hulk, his star began to rise. Thanks to his work in the film, he was cast as the villainous Hector opposite Brad Pitt in the 2004 blockbuster epic film Troy. In 2005, he had a starring role in Steven Spielberg’s political drama Munich. The romantic comedy “Lucky You,” from 2007, was the next stage for him to display his talents. The Australian drama Romulus, My Father featured him as well.

Both 2008 and 2009 were quite busy years for him as he worked on a number of films. He played a librarian with a supernatural genetic condition in “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” He has roles as diverse as “King Henry VIII” in “The Other Boleyn Girl” and “Nero” in “Star Trek.” The action thriller film “Hanna,” in which he appeared in 2011, was a commercial and critical triumph. He played “Lieutenant Commander Erik S. Kristensen” in the 2013 film “Lone Survivor.” He starred in the 2014 horror thriller “Deliver Us from Evil,” in which he played a police sergeant who looked into paranormal situations.

In the 2016 Netflix film, “Special Correspondents,” he portrayed a radio journalist who is having trouble making ends meet. The following year, in 2017, he starred as “Uther Pendragon” in Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” in which he was depicted as the British monarch and Arthur’s father. Early in his career, Eric Bana was recognized for his outstanding work in the critically acclaimed and award-winning film Full Frontal. Actor Eric’s portrayal of series regular Poida helped propel him to fame. His work as Chopper garnered him a Best Actor award from the Australian Film Institute. His performance as the protagonist cemented his reputation as a skilled actor in Australia’s film and television industry.
