Flume Bio, Life, and Career:

Flume is the stage name of Australian DJ and music producer Harley Edward Streten, who was born on November 5, 1991. Flume is known professionally as Flume. He is recognized as an innovator of future bass and is credited with contributing to the genre’s rise to popularity. His self-titled debut studio album, Flume, was released in 2012 to good reviews and quickly climbed to the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.

In Australia, the album has been certified as double-platinum. Remixing songs by musicians like Lorde, Sam Smith, Arcade Fire, Hermitude, and Disclosure are among Flume’s many accomplishments. Skin, his second studio album, was released in 2016, and it immediately reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. During the 2017 Grammy Awards, this album was recognized as having the year’s best performance by a dance/electronic album. Due to the success of the album’s first song, “Never Be Like You,” which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, the album has received acclaim on a global scale.

After the first release of Skin, Flume followed up with the release of two B-side EPs for the album titled Skin Companion EP 1 in November 2016 and Skin Companion EP 2 in February 2017. In 2019, he came out with a mixtape titled “Hello This Is Flume,” which received a lot of great feedback. In May of 2022, he released his third album created in a recording studio titled Palaces. Things Don’t Always Go the Way You Plan was the title of his second mixtape, which he released in 2023. On the 5th of November, 1991 found Harley Edward Streten was brought into the world in Sydney.

His father, Glen Streten, is a filmmaker and record producer, while his mother, Lyndall, is a horticulture and a former educator. He takes after both of his parents in this regard.  He went to Seaforth Public School for primary school, St. Augustine’s College, Brookvale, and Mosman High School for senior school while growing up in the Northern Beaches of Sydney with a younger sister and brother.  He began composing music at the age of 11, with a rudimentary DJ and mixing program CD for Windows that was bundled in a box of Kellogg’s Nutrigrain.

The CD educated Flume on the process of layering music and provided him with a fresh viewpoint, both of which kicked off his career as a music producer.  In 2010, Flume started making house music under the alias HEDS, which is an acronym for his initials.  In addition to producing a number of remixes, he is responsible for the creation of two tracks titled “Flow” and “Fizz.” The song “Possum,” which had been submitted to Triple J Unearthed, was the first time that Flume’s music was played on the radio.

In 2011, Flume was signed by the Australian record label Future Classic as a result of an original artists competition that was managed by the label. The songs “Sleepless,” “Over You,” and “Paper Thin” were the ones he entered into the competition, and he came in second place. Nathan McLay, who was the founder of Future Classic and is now Flume’s manager, was instrumental in the publication of Flume’s debut extended play (EP), which was titled Sleepless and featured three of Flume’s original tunes.

He chose the name “Flume” for himself after hearing the song by Bon Iver with the same name. On November 9, 2012, Flume released his debut album, which was simply titled Flume.  The duration of the album is 49 minutes, and it contains 15 songs.  It was completed on the very first laptop computer he had ever bought for himself. While he was in London on a trip with little financial means, he used this laptop to complete the album.  During the development of the album, Flume worked with vocalists Moon Holiday and Jezzabell Doran, as well as Chet Faker and New York rapper T-shirt.

It made its debut on the ARIA Albums Chart at number two, only one spot behind Take Me Home by One Direction. In December 2012, Flume revealed that he had secured a recording contract with Mom + Pop Music and that he would be releasing his self-titled debut studio album in North America.  The album was released on February 21, 2013, in the United States, and it was met with positive reception from reviewers in the country, earning an average score of 73 out of 100 on the review aggregation website Metacritic.

An Instagram video that went viral on September 2, 2019, and was posted by actress Paige Elkington, who was dating Streten at the time, showed Streten performing anilingus on Elkington while he was performing at Burning Man in Black Rock City, Nevada. The video was accompanied by the caption “Sorry Mom.” Although it was taken from the platform very quickly, the post was shared by a wide variety of news outlets and was seen by a large number of people on social media.

The publicity had a favorable impact on his career, despite the many responses to the video and the way it was depicted in a bad light in tabloids. Elkington conducted an interview with him in which he discussed the situation, and Elkington quoted him as saying, “I received the reverse of getting canceled.” As of the month of May 2019, Flume had made his home in Los Angeles, California, but he had made his way back to Australia in some manner the year before.
