Greg Proops Bio, Life, and Career:

Greg Proops was born to Steven and Doris Proops on October 3, 1959, in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended “San Mateo Junior College” after growing up in the San Carlos area to the south of San Francisco. At San Francisco State University in the late ’70s, he majored in improv and acting. Together with Forrest Brakeman, he performed his first stand-up act at the ‘Holy City Zoo’ in 1982; he went on to do similar shows at a number of smaller venues. Proops and Brakeman was their tag team moniker.

Reed Kirk, the head of the improv troupe Faultline, persuaded him to join when he volunteered for the group on a whim. The organization encouraged his improvisational skills and arranged for him to appear at Grant Avenue’s renowned Savoy Tivoli. Greg Proops and Mc Shane, both of Faultline, caught the attention of the producers of the improvised comedy show Whose Line is it Anyway, Mark Leveson and Dan Patterson, who was so impressed by them that they hired them. Greg Proops became good friends with Colin Mochrie, Richard Vranch, and McShane during his four years spent in London filming for the show.

When his employment visa in London expired after four years, he returned to the United States. After that, he was cast in the U.S. version of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and has since participated in 71 episodes, usually as the show’s fourth participant. In 2004, he was featured in every episode of the short-lived improv comedy show “Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show.” Here, actors took part in improv games against a green screen. The animators would next add the background and props to the green screen.

He is well-known for his voice works in a wide variety of media, including movies and TV shows. He provided the voice of Tim Burton in the 1993 film “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and he voiced Bernard, a FUGG technician, in the adult cartoon series “Stripperella,” which aired on Spike TV from 2003 to 2004. He also voiced Bob the Builder from the hit cartoon series “Bob the Builder” and Fode from “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.” His voice work can be heard on BBC Radio 2’s “Flight of the Conchords,” which aired in 2005.

The Phantom Menace is a video game in which he reprises his role from the films. In 2008, Proops made a cameo appearance in the computer-animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” playing the role of Tal Merrick. Beginning with “The Greg Proops Experiment,” he has since moved on to hosting “The Smartest Man in the World,” a weekly podcast. This is where he discusses many aspects of himself and the news of the day.

He debuted with ‘Live’ in 1994 and his most recent album, ‘The Resistance,’ was released in 2018. Published by Touchstone on May 5, 2015, his book, “The Smartest Book in the World,” is a collection of short essays that blend wit and comedy to teach its readers about a wide range of topics, including baseball, history, poetry, and books.

Greg Proops is an actor and a comedian; he has several facets to his personality. He has hosted television shows, written books, performed stand-up comedy, done voice-overs, and even has a popular podcast. In an interview with a media outlet, he said that being chosen to be in the British adaptation of the popular comedy show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” was the luckiest thing to ever happen to him professionally.

During its run, the show gave him exposure as an improv comedian and contributed to his early career success. As a voice actor, he provided his services for numerous well-known productions, including the role of Bob the Builder in the animated series of the same name. In addition to his podcast, “The Smartest Man in the World,” the former stand-up comic has published a nonfiction book with the same title. His podcasts have been hailed as “the boldest comedy on the podcasting frontier right now” by the esteemed ‘Rolling Stone magazine. In the current season of the comedy show ‘Schooled,’ he plays the role of Mr. Granger, the art teacher.

Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and occasionally special guests perform spontaneous, made-up sketches for laughs. There have been up to 18 seasons of the show broadcast in the United States, and 10 seasons shown in the United Kingdom. From 2014 through 2021, Proops had 20 guest appearances on the show. He frequently engaged in a lighthearted conversation with Clive Anderson regarding the differences and similarities between British and American English.

He spent four years in London while playing on the show and counts McShane, Richard Vranch, and Colin Mochrie as some of his closest friends there. After the American competition ended, he was brought back as a regular “fourth participant.” From the show’s inception in 1993 until 2020, he will have made more guest appearances on US Whose Line than any other non-regular cast member.
