Hakeem Olajuwon Bio, Life and Career:

Former professional basketball player Hakeem Olajuwon was of Nigerian and American descent. He was a member of the ‘National Basketball Association’ (NBA) during his playing career. He began his career with the “Toronto Raptors” and went on to play for the “Houston Rockets” over the course of his 18-year professional basketball career. Hakeem was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and reared there.

He began playing football when he was a toddler and continued playing into his teenage years. When he was 15 years old, he made the decision to play basketball for the first time and quickly demonstrated some innate ability in the sport. In order to pursue his higher education in the United States, he moved there and soon after enrolled at the “University of Houston.”

His height of 7 feet helped him gain a seat on the university’s basketball team, but it was his skills that got him selected for the 1984 “NBA Draft” and signed by the “Houston Rockets.” His height helped him get a place on the university’s basketball squad. He was a center for the squad that won the “NBA Championships” in both 1994 and 1995. He was the leader of that team.

He is widely regarded as one of the best centers who has ever competed in the National Basketball Association (‘NBA’). The year 2008 marked his induction into the ‘Basketball Hall of Fame.’ In addition to that, he has been selected for the “All-NBA First Team” six times and has been named the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) of the NBA Finals twice.

At the ‘Olympics’ in 1996, he was a member of the American national team and contributed to their achievement of a gold medal. He despises the media’s cliched portrayal of his boyhood, in which it is implied that he endured a lot of trials and tribulations throughout his formative years.

Hakeem has made the assertion on multiple occasions that he was raised and educated in a positive setting that included youngsters of a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. He also mentioned that his parents instilled in him the importance of honoring his elders and working hard from a young age.

The first few years of Hakeem’s life were spent without him even coming into contact with a basketball. He was a goalie for the football team he played for. During that time period in Nigeria, it was by far the most popular sport. When he was 15 years old and attending what was then known as the “Muslim Teachers College” in Lagos, he participated in his first-ever game of basketball.

The move from football to basketball, on the other hand, was relatively simple because both sports need great footwork as well as hand–eye coordination. As soon as he made it into the ‘NBA,’ Hakeem established himself as a standout player for the squad. Because of his incredible height of 7 feet, he demonstrated that the ‘Houston Rockets’ made the right choice in selecting him for that particular season.

Hakeem recorded a rookie season in the National Basketball Association in which he averaged 20.6 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.68 blocks per game. He joined forces with Ralph Sampson, who was a few inches taller than he was, and the two of them became partners. They were affectionately referred to as the “Twin Towers.”

In his first year of play, he finished second in the voting for ‘Rookie of the Year,’ trailing only the all-time great Michael Jordan in the standings. Hakeem was the only other rookie that year to garner any votes, which brings up an interesting point.

In his second season with the Rockets, Hakeem enjoyed even greater success, as evidenced by the fact that he scored 23.5 points per game while also averaging 11.5 rebounds and 3.4 blocks each contest. Additionally, he was a key contributor to his team’s victory in the ‘Western Conference finals against the ‘Los Angeles Lakers.’ Because of his astounding performance, he was given a spot on the cover of the well-known publication Sports Illustrated.

By the time the 1987–1988 season rolled around, Hakeem had solidified his position as the fan favorite on the club. Sampson had already departed the squad at that point due to a knee injury, so there was no competition. Hakeem was recognized as having the most rebounds in the league thanks to his average of 13.5 rebounds per game.

During the 1993–1994 season as well as the season that immediately followed it in the NBA, he and his squad turned in outstanding performances. He had greater performance than any other center on any other ‘NBA’ squad, and he established himself as one of the top centers in the annals of ‘NBA’ history. In both 1994 and 1995, he was the leader of the team that won the “NBA Championships.”
