James Arthur Bio, Life, and Career:
James Andrew Arthur is a singer and songwriter from England. He is best known for winning the ninth series of the renowned television music competition ‘The X Factor.’ His debut song, a cover version of Shontelle Layne’s ‘Impossible,’ which was released by a record known as ‘Syco Music’ after he was crowned the winner of the competition, reached number one on the ‘UK Singles Chart.’
The track went on to become the most successful winner’s single in the history of the program, selling more than 1.4 million copies in the United Kingdom alone. When Arthur released his first song in 2013, it was nominated for several prizes, including “Best International Song” and “International Breakthrough of the Year.” His first full-length studio album, titled “James Arthur,” reached number two on the “UK Albums Chart” despite receiving generally negative reviews from music journalists.
In 2014, Arthur was invited to Bahrain to formally open the theater rehearsal studios as well as a 400-seat auditorium at the ‘British School of Bahrain.’ In September of 2016, it was reported that he had been selected as an ambassador for ‘SANE,’ which is a leading organization in the United Kingdom that works toward improving the lives of those who suffer from mental illness.
The divorce of Arthur’s parents took place when he was just two years old, making his childhood a challenging time for him. The relationship between Arthur’s mother and a man named Ronnie Rafferty, a computer engineer, began when Arthur was three years old. After that, his father wed a lady who went by the name Jackie.
North Yorkshire’s ‘Ings Farm Primary School’ was where he received his education. When he was nine years old, he relocated to Bahrain with his mother, stepfather Ronnie Rafferty, and sisters Sian and Jasmin. Ronnie Rafferty was his mother’s second husband. After the family relocated to Bahrain so that Arthur’s stepfather could take a position as the regional manager for the company ‘Rockwell Automation,’ Arthur and his stepmother made their home in a villa that was located within a secure compound.
Arthur moved back to England with his family in April 2001, when he was 13 years old. Prior to that, he had spent the previous four years learning at the “British School of Bahrain,” also known as the “BSB.” Following his return, he resumed his schooling at the ‘Rye Hills School’ in Redcar, which is located in North Yorkshire.
His biological father, his mother, and his two sisters were deserted by his stepfather when he was 14 years old. After that, Arthur was sent to a foster care facility in Brotton, where he spent four days a week. On the other three days of the week, he remained with his biological father, Neil. James Arthur launched his career as an independent musician in 2011, when he published a 16-track album named ‘Sins by the Sea’ on YouTube and SoundCloud. It was in 2012 when he tried out for the ninth season of ‘The X Factor,’ which led to an increase in his fame.
After that, he received guidance from American singer-songwriter Nicole Scherzinger, who subsequently assisted him in improving his performance on the show.
Following his victory on December 9, 2012, Arthur released a cover version of Shontelle’s song “Impossible,” which went on to become the most popular single in the United Kingdom and topped the “UK Singles Chart.” After being distributed by ‘Syco Music,’ the record went on to sell more than 1.4 million copies in the United Kingdom, making it the winner’s single with the highest number of sales in the entire history of ‘The X Factor.’
On September 9, 2013, Arthur released his new single, which was named ‘You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Loves You.’ The song reached its highest position in the UK at number two shortly after its international release on October 20, 2013. The following month, Arthur published his self-titled debut studio album, which eventually reached number two on the ‘UK Albums Chart.’ After its release, it went on to become the 30th best-selling album in the United Kingdom throughout the entire year.
On June 11, 2014, Arthur posted a message to his Twitter profile in which he revealed that he was no longer affiliated with ‘Syco Music.’ On September 6, 2015, he said that he has signed a new deal with ‘Columbia Records and that he is currently working on his second studio album. He also stated that the announcement was made over social media.
