Janina M. Jeff whose name is pronounced juh-NEE-nuh and who was born on September 10, 1985, is a geneticist working for Illumina in the United States. In addition to her interest in science communication, her primary research focus is on the identification of genetic variants that explain differences in disease prevalence between populations. She made history by becoming the first person of African American descent to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a doctoral degree in human genetics.
