Joe Budden Bio, Life, and Career:

Joseph Anthony Budden (born August 31, 1980)  is a well-known figure in American culture and was formerly a rapper. As a rapper, he initially came to public attention in 2003 with the release of the top 40 single “Pump It Up.” He was also a member of the hip-hop ensemble Slaughterhouse at the time. In 2018, he announced his retirement from rapping and began a successful career as a broadcaster, having a stint as a co-host on Everyday Struggle for Complex, which received a lot of media attention. Currently, he is the host of The Joe Budden Podcast and State of the Culture on Revolt.

Episodes of The Joe Budden Podcast are uploaded to Patreon and YouTube every other week. The phrase “the Howard Stern of hip-hop” has been used to refer to him. On August 31, 1980, Budden was born to parents Joseph Budden and Fay Southerland in the East Harlem district of Upper Manhattan in the city of New York, New York, United States of America. When he was thirteen years old, he relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, with his mother and older brother. There, he attended Lincoln High School and became a student there. The fact that Budden’s father was not present in his life when he was growing up is a topic that he will eventually discuss in his music.

Because Budden had behavioral issues as a child, he was sent to the Laurinburg Institute, a boarding school located in North Carolina. It was there that he started to refine his skills as a rapper. After moving back to Jersey, he started using illegal substances and eventually became addicted to angel dust. After an emotionally charged argument with his mother, Budden checked himself willingly into treatment on July 3, 1997. This was in exchange for his mother granting him permission to go to his high school prom.

Budden did not graduate high school and, by the time he was 20, he was already a father to a child he had fathered with a lady several years his senior. The impending birth of Budden’s child inspired him to devote more time and energy to his music. In 2001, he joined forces with the record producer Dub-B, who is also known as White Boy, and began distributing his first mixtapes and demos. One of these tapes found its way into the possession of DJ Clue, who was also the head of the Desert Storm Records label at the time. It didn’t take long for Budden to establish himself as a regular on mixtapes, and in 2002, he signed a significant record deal with Def Jam Recordings. He first came to the public’s attention through the promotional track “Focus,” which stayed on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list for seventeen weeks, reaching its highest position of No. 43.

On May 8, 2003, Budden disseminated “Pump It Up” to the public as the debut single from his upcoming studio album. The song was a commercial success, reaching No. 16 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list and at No. 18 on its Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Just Blaze was the producer of the song. The song reached its highest position on the US Billboard Hot 100 list at number 38, number 10 on the chart of Hot Rap Songs, and number 39 on the chart of Radio Songs.  The song was also included on the soundtracks of successful movies such as 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and You Got Served (2004). Additionally, the song was featured on the soundtracks of popular video games such as Madden NFL 2004, Def Jam Vendetta, and Def Jam Fight for NY, in which Budden appeared as a playable character. At the 46th Annual Grammy Awards, the song was considered for a nomination for the Grammy Award in the category of Best Male Rap Solo Performance.

Joe Budden, which was the name of Budden’s self-titled debut studio album, was released on June 10, 2003. It made its debut at position No. 8 on the US Billboard 200, selling a total of 95,000 copies in its first week[20] alone, and it went on to sell more than 420,000 copies in the United States overall. Its second single, “Fire (Yes, Yes Y’all),” which included guest vocals by American rapper Busta Rhymes, peaked at No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and No. 48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list. Fabolous’s mixtape, titled More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape, had a remix that Budden had made, which featured Paul Cain and Fabolous. In the latter half of 2003, Budden provided a guest appearance on Clubbin by Marques Houston, which was produced by R. Kelly and reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 39) and the UK BPI charts (No. 15).
