John C. Dvorak Bio, Life and Career:

John C. Dvorak is a well-known columnist and presenter in the United States, specializing in the fields of technology and computing. He was born in 1952.  His writing career began in the 1980s when he began contributing as a regular writer to a number of different journals. He has hosted shows on both TechTV and TWiT.tv, in addition to serving as vice president of Mevio. He is now serving as a co-host of the podcast known as “No Agenda.” Los Angeles, California, was where Dvorak’s birth took place in the year 1952.  He is the nephew of August Dvorak, who was a sociologist and the inventor of the Dvorak keyboard[3, and he received his degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. He also has a minor in chemistry from the same institution.

InfoWorld, PC Magazine (two independent articles since 1986), MarketWatch, BUG Magazine (Croatia), and Info Exame are just a few of the magazines that have published his work (Brazil). Columnist for Boardwatch, Forbes, Forbes.com, MacUser, MicroTimes, PC/Computing, Barron’s Magazine, Smart Business, and The Vancouver Sun, he has also written for other publications.

In addition to writing for a number of other magazines, he has contributed to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, MacMania Networks, The International Herald Tribune, The San Francisco Examiner, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. In episode 524 of the No Agenda podcast, he mentioned that he “got rid of him” at MarketWatch after Adam Curry made a suggestion for his next column. This occurred after Adam Curry had asked him a question. He did not elaborate any further on the matter.

In March of 2006, he launched a new show that he named CrankyGeeks. On this show, he was the host of a rotating panel of “cranky” tech experts who discussed various technological news topics that had occurred over the previous week. On September 22, 2010, the final episode, which was numbered 237, was shown. Dvorak was engaged by Mevio in 2007 to serve as Vice President and Managing Editor for a new Mevio TECH channel. In this role, he is responsible for managing content derived from Mevio’s pre-existing technical programming.

In addition, he was the host of the show “Tech5”, in which he addressed the most important technological developments of the day in around five minutes; the show ceased production in late 2010. No Agenda is the name of the podcast that he and Adam Curry, who helped develop Mevio, co-host. The show is a conversation about the week’s events, happenings in the lives of the hosts and their families, and restaurant evaluations from the dinners Dvorak and Curry have together when they are in the same city. Dvorak and Curry eat dinner together when they are in the same city (usually San Francisco). Curry is known to have more eccentric thoughts regarding the latest news or events taking place across the world, whereas Dvorak is the one who plays the straight man in the dialogue.

Dvorak has written or co-written more than a dozen books, including Hypergrowth: The Rise and Fall of the Osborne Computer Corporation with Adam Osborne in 1990 and Dvorak’s Guide to Desktop Telecommunications in 1992. Other books that Dvorak has written or co-written include Dvorak’s Guide to PC Telecommunications (Osborne McGraw-Hill, Berkeley, California, 1992), Dvorak’s Guide to OS/2 (Random House, New York, 1993) The Book was published by Prentice Hall PTR in October 2003 and featured Wendy Taylor and Chris Pirillo as co-authors.

His most recent e-book is titled Inside Track 2013 and was released in 2013. The Computer Press Association honored Dvorak by bestowing upon him the titles of Best Columnist as well as Best Column. In addition to that, the American Business Editors Association granted him its national gold award in 2004 and 2005 for Best Online Columns of 2003 and 2004, respectively, both of which he had previously won. He was presented with the Telluride Tech Festival Award of Technology in the year 2001. He has been given the rank of Kentucky Colonel, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky upon an individual. In July of 2016, Dvorak and co-host Adam Curry were awarded the “Best Podcast” Podcast Award in the News & Politics category for their work on the podcast titled “No Agenda.”Dvorak served as a member of the founding team for CNET Networks and made an appearance on the television program CNET Central.

In addition, he was the host of the radio program Real Computing, which was followed by the television program Technically Speaking on NPR. He also hosted the television program Silicon Spin on TechTV (which was then known as ZDTV). He made an appearance on Marketwatch TV as well as This Week in Tech, which is a podcast audio and now video program produced by Leo Laporte and which also features other former TechTV stars such as Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, and Robert Heron. At one point, Dvorak was not allowed on the show.
