Jon Lovett Bio, Life, and Career:

Jonathan Ira Lovett is a comedian, podcaster, and former speechwriter based in the United States. He was born on August 17, 1982. Crooked Media was established by Lovett, Jon Favreau, and Tommy Vietor, two other individuals who had previously worked as staff members in the White House under the administration of Barack Obama.

Lovett is a regular host for the podcasts Pod Save America and Lovett or Leave It, both of which are produced by Crooked Media. As a speechwriter, he has done work for both President Barack Obama and for Hillary Clinton during her time as a senator in the United States and as a candidate for the presidency in 2008. In addition to this, Lovett was a co-creator of the NBC sitcom 1600 Penn and worked as a writer and producer on the third season of The Newsroom on HBO. Lovett was born on Long Island, specifically in the town of Woodbury.  to a family that practices Reform Judaism and is of Ukrainian ancestry and that runs a box factory that was started by his grandfather. He completed high school at Syosset.

In 2004, Lovett received a degree in mathematics from Williams College, where he had previously studied.  Rotating Linkages in a Normed Plane which he wrote for his senior thesis, resulted in a publication on the same subject in American Mathematical Monthly. Lovett was selected to deliver the commencement address to his Williams College class in 2004.  Following graduation, Lovett worked as a paralegal while also performing stand-up comedy on the side for a period of one year.

During the presidential election of 2004, Lovett volunteered his time for John Kerry’s campaign. He was asked to write a statement for the candidate, and as a result of his work, an internship opportunity in writing was made available to him.  After that, he did some temp work in the Senate office of Jon Corzine.  He was hired in 2005 to assist Sarah Hurwitz in her role as a speechwriter for then-Senator Hillary Clinton, and he continued to write speeches for her all the way through her campaign for the presidency in 2008. Lovett was declared the winner of an anonymous contest to write speeches for President Barack Obama in the White House after Clinton was defeated in the Democratic primary election in 2008.

Lovett worked for the Obama administration as a speechwriter for a period of three years, during which time he collaborated extensively with Jon Favreau and David Axelrod. Notable speeches that he penned include policy speeches on financial reform and don’t ask, don’t tell as well as remarks at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. one of his most famous speeches is listed here.

Before the Obama administration publicly supported same-sex marriage, Lovett secretly performed the first same-sex marriage in the White House and presided over the ceremony. Lovett relocated to California in order to pursue a career as a screenwriter citing a desire to write independently and concentrate on creative comedy on a full-time basis as his motivation. This occurred before Barack Obama ran for reelection. Lovett worked closely with Josh Gad and Jason Winer on the production of the television series 1600 Penn. Lovett served as a co-creator, executive producer, and writer for the series from its inception in 2012 until its conclusion in 2013 when it was canceled.

After that, Lovett participated in the production of the third season of The Newsroom on HBO as a writer, producer, and advisor. In addition, Lovett provided pieces of commentary to publications such as The Atlantic between the years 2012 and 2015. Lovett, along with Jon Favreau, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor, all of whom had previously worked for the Obama administration, began hosting the political podcast Keepin’ it 1600 for The Ringer in March of 2016.

The podcast was supposed to cover the presidential campaign of 2016, but it was not anticipated that it would continue after that.  But after the election in November 2016, Lovett, Favreau, and Vietor wanted to get involved in politics once more. However, they did not want to return to political campaigning or leave Los Angeles in order to do so.  As a result, they launched a liberal media company called Crooked Media, with the podcast Pod Save America serving as its flagship product.  Crooked Media and Pod Save America in particular have been compared to earlier attempts by the left, such as Air America, to compete with America’s conservative talk radio.

Lovett has been characterized as providing comic relief to the programming that is being broadcast on Crooked Media and Pod Save America.  Since then, the company has distributed a variety of podcasts, several of which frequently include Lovett as a guest host. Lovett took over the hosting duties for the podcast talk show Lovett or Leave It, which is produced by Crooked Media, in March 2017.

The podcast, which is typically recorded in front of a live audience in Los Angeles, has embarked on national and international tours featuring live versions of both Pod Save America and Lovett or Leave It. These tours are hosted by Lovett and Crooked Media. Lovett was also instrumental in the launch of Crooked Media’s Vote Save America project, which is a voter recruitment and education initiative. In 2011, he began a romantic relationship with Ronan Farrow, who is a journalist who investigates crimes and an author.  Farrow published Catch and Kill in October 2019, in which he made the public announcement of their engagement; he had proposed to Lovett in an earlier draught of the book. The year 2022 marked the end of the couple’s relationship.
