Justine Lindsay Bio, Life, and Career:
Justine Simone Lindsay is an American dancer, professional cheerleader, and podcaster. She was born on September 19, 1992, in the United States. When Lindsay was selected to be a member of the Carolina TopCats, the cheerleading squad affiliated with the Carolina Panthers, in 2022, she made history by becoming the first openly transgender person to be given the opportunity to cheer in the National Football League.
Lindsay received her bachelor’s degree in communications from North Carolina State University after attending Johnson C. Smith University, where she was a member of the Golden Bullettes dance team. Prior to attending NC State, Lindsay was a member of the Johnson C. Smith University dance team. She attended The Art Institute of Charlotte and graduated with an associate’s degree there as well.
When Lindsay was an undergraduate student at St. Augustine’s University in 2012, she participated in a halftime show that was put on by the university’s marching band. When Lindsay joined the Carolina TopCats cheerleading squad in March 2022, she made history by becoming the first openly transgender person to be accepted onto a National Football League cheerleading squad.
Lindsay is the first transgender woman on a team to be open about her identity. Although there is no official record of the history of the cheerleading rosters in the National Football League (NFL), and therefore it is possible that transgender women could have been on teams in the past, Lindsay is the first transgender woman on a team to come out. Following her selection to the team, Lindsay published a post on her Instagram account in which she acknowledged her gender transition.
In June of 2022, following the publication of an article about Lindsay on BuzzFeed, the news that she was the first transgender cheerleader in the National Football League became known to the general public. BuzzFeed discovered her post on Instagram in which she revealed that she had been accepted to the Carolina TopCats and that she was a transgender woman.
She was also selected despite having a bald head, and she stated that she hoped to inspire other young people who might feel insecure about their bald look as well as break down barriers about gender and appearance, stating that she hoped to:I am grateful that I was able to break down that door and tell people, “Hey, we are not just sexual beings… We are actual human beings who want to better ourselves.” I am happy that I was able to do this. The Panthers issued the following official statement to National Public Radio after receiving some criticism as a result of Lindsay’s hiring: “The qualifications and capabilities of potential TopCats players are taken into consideration during the hiring process.
Our company is an employer that is committed to providing equal opportunities and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, color, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin in hiring decisions. We hope that this will be an amazing season for all of the TopCats, including Justine Lindsay. Keeping It Sweet With Justine is the name of Lindsay’s podcast that can be found on Spotify. Lindsay, who spent her childhood in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, recalled the day that TopCats director Chandalae Lanouette informed her that she had made the team.
While she was driving through an area of Charlotte that she was not familiar with, she pulled into the parking lot of a church that was packed with people. She explained, “I just blacked out when I heard the words ‘Congratulations.'” “The next thing I knew, I was jumping around and crying after having just jumped out of my car. After I explained what had transpired, the people who came up to me gave me a hug and told me they couldn’t be more pleased with how I had handled the situation. They said they were so proud of me. It was a beautiful moment, and hearing words of encouragement from people I didn’t even know hit me where it mattered the most.
