Kathleen Madigan Bio, Life, and Career:

Kathleen Madigan is a comedian and TV personality who is from the United States. In addition to her performances of stand-up comedy, she is a frequent guest on a number of different television programs in the United States. Kathleen Madigan is one of seven children born to Irish Catholic parents Jack and Vicki Madigan, who are both employed in the medical field. Jack Madigan is a lawyer, and Vicki Madigan is a nurse.  She spent the majority of her childhood in Florissant, which is a suburb of St. Louis, but her family also spent some time in House Springs, Missouri, and in the Lake of the Ozarks region of central Missouri during her formative years.

Although Madigan attended the public School of the Osage during her first eight years of schooling, the majority of her education during those years was obtained from private Catholic schools. She participated in various sports there, including volleyball, track, and basketball, and she achieved great success as an athlete. In the latter competition, she won the 1978 Mid-Missouri Hoops Shoot Championship, in which she went on to set a record. She was only 4 feet 5 inches tall at the time, but she broke a record by becoming the shortest person to ever win the competition.  She used her non-dominant hand to shoot, making 14 of her 15 attempts successful.

Madigan received his high school education at McCluer North and graduated in 1983. However, she admitted in an interview with St. Louis Magazine in 2012 that she participated in a few activities such as float decorating or prom. Instead, she chose to work at a steakhouse where she could make up to $200 per night. In the interview, she said that she participated in a few activities such as float decorating or prom. According to Madigan, her only accomplishment at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where she studied for a total of two years, was to rack up a total of $7,000 in fines for parking infractions.  In 1988, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Since Madigan had a thirty-week booking of guaranteed dates, she decided to quit her job in Missouri and move to California. During those early days of her career in comedy clubs, she cites Ron White, Richard Jeni, and Lewis Black as some of her primary influences. Last Comic Standing, I Love the 90s: Part Deux, I Love the ’80s 3-D, and Celebrity Poker Showdown are just a few of the television shows and specials that Madigan has appeared on. In addition to that, she was the star of her very own HBO Half-Hour Comedy Special as well as a special for Comedy Central Presents. She has appeared on numerous late-night talk shows, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Late Show with David Letterman, and The Bob and Tom Show.

During her time at SIUE, she was the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper and also completed an internship with the professional ice hockey team the St. Louis Blues. Initially, Madigan pursued a career in print journalism. He worked for several newspapers in the St. Louis metropolitan area known as the Suburban Journals, as well as the publications department of the Missouri Athletic Club. During this time, she was also performing stand-up comedy at “open mic” nights held at comedy clubs in the St. Louis area. She acknowledges that her father, Jack, was a major influence in her decision to pursue a career in comedy.  Her rising profile at these quickly resulted in an offer of a paying job in stand-up comedy from The Funny Bone, which is a chain of comedy clubs found all over the country.

In addition to that, she is the host of the radio show “Blue Collar Comedy” on Sirius XM Radio. In support of the American armed forces stationed overseas, Madigan has appeared twice in USO shows, touring both Iraq and Afghanistan with other comedians, including his good friend Lewis Black.  Sometimes, she writes material for other comedians, like when she worked as a writer for Garry Shandling in 2004 and 2005 when he hosted the Emmy Awards telecast. Other times, she writes material for herself.  In 2016, she made a guest appearance on the web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which is hosted by Jerry Seinfeld.

Madigan started her very own comedy podcast called Madigan’s Pubcast in August of 2020, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to cancel all of her upcoming tour dates. She made an appearance on the episode of “Girls Gone Wild” on CBS that was hosted by Byron Allen and titled “Comic’s Unleashed” on December 19, 2020. At the American Comedy Awards in 1996, Madigan was recognized as having the “Funniest Female Stand-Up Comic” performance.

Madigan is an unattached person who resides in the city of Los Angeles in the state of California. She also reportedly “spends inordinate amounts of time” with her family on the farm that she owns in the Midwest, which she describes as being in her possession. Madigan is one of six children, with four brothers and two sisters.  She frequently draws inspiration from her father, not only for her comedic material but also for her work ethic.  She had a relationship with Lewis Black in the past. Even though they are no longer together, she regards Black as her closest friend to this day.
