Kid Fury Bio, Life, and Career:

Gregory A. Smith better known by his stage name Kid Fury, is a comedian, writer, and YouTube vlogger based in the United States. Smith was born on November 24, 1987. He is probably best recognized for his role as a co-host on the podcast The Read alongside Crissle Wes. Kid Fury spent his childhood in Miami, Florida, after his parents settled there after moving there from Jamaica.  He is the older brother of two younger brothers.  From a young age, he had a strong appreciation for comedy, and some of his favorite comedic shows include Martin, In Living Color, and Moesha.

In 2010, Kid Fury established a channel on YouTube, where he hosted a video blog series under the moniker Furious Thoughts.  At the time of the launch, he was also maintaining a comedy blog, and he established the YouTube account with the intention of driving traffic to the comedy blog. The comedic and unfiltered take on pop culture and his real-life that was featured in his videos attracted a large and diverse audience to his channel. He was referred to as “Black Twitter’s Kingmaker” by the New York Observer, and Jamilah Lemieux of Ebony drew comparisons between him and Eddie Murphy.

Kid Fury launched a YouTube channel in 2010 where he hosted a video series called “Furious Thoughts”. At the time of the launch he also had a comedy blog and had created the YouTube account to drive traffic to his blog. His videos featured his comedic, unfiltered takes on pop culture and his real life and attracted a large, diverse audience. He then moved to New York City in 2012. In July 2018, it was reported that Kid Fury was in the process of creating a television show for HBO with Lena Waithe serving as the executive producer. This project will be a “surreal dark comedy” that will follow a gay Black man in his twenties as he navigates life in New York City while suffering from depression.Kid Fury had a meeting with Chloe Pisello, a producer at Avalon Television. She listened to his pitch, liked it, and assisted him in shopping the show to several different networks. They were able to reach an agreement with HBO in the end. Fury is not ashamed to be gay.

He made these remarks in an interview with HuffPost: “I want people to understand that being black and gay is so much different than just being gay… In the same way that black women are routinely ignored in the struggle for equal rights for women, I believe that the same thing occurs in the gay community with respect to black gays. On the show The Read, he is most famous for arguing in favor of Missy Elliott receiving the MTV Video Vanguard Award. In 2019, Elliott was given the award, and during her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to Kid Fury and West for their efforts in rallying support.
