Kilo Kish Bio, Life, and Career:
Kilo Kish is the stage name of American singer-songwriter and visual artist Lakisha Kimberly Robinson, who was born on May 10, 1990, and goes by this name professionally. Kilo Kish made his debut into the world on May 10, 1990, in Orlando, Florida. She started her education in Bergen County, New Jersey at Glen Rock Elementary School, but she eventually moved back to Orlando, where she completed her secondary education at Winter Park High School.
At the age of 18, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Pratt Institute in New York City, which is a private art college. She took a year off, during which time she worked a variety of jobs, before enrolling in the textile design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, from which she ultimately graduated in 2012.
Kish’s musical career got its start when her roommates, Smash Simmons, and Mell McCloud, decided to launch a project under the name “Kool Kats Klub” and set up an at-home recording studio. She first connected with Matt Martians of the neo-soul band The Internet as a result of this exposure, and the two of them went on to collaborate on the songs “Want you Still” by The Jet Age of Tomorrow and “Ode to a Dream” by The Internet.
Homeschool, the debut extended play (EP) by Kilo Kish, was released on April 2, 2012, and was met with positive reviews from music critics, leading Complex to name it one of the greatest albums of 2012. The EP was produced by previous partners such as The Internet and Pyramid Vritra of The Jet Age of Tomorrow, who both contributed guest vocals to the project. These two individuals were also responsible for producing the EP.
Kish made available on SoundCloud on July 31 their new song titled “Watergun,” which was produced by The Internet. The record label The Blue Rider made the song “Navy” available for purchase on September 17th. In addition, the CD featured a rework of “Navy” created by MeLo-X. The music video for “Navy,” which Kish and Ben Rayner directed together, had its debut on The Fader the very same day.
The mixtape known as K+ was made available for free download by Kish on February 7, 2013. Childish Gambino, Star Slinger, SBTRKT, A$AP Ferg of A$AP Mob, Earl Sweatshirt, and Matt Martians of OFWGKTA were some of the artists who participated in this event. As a follow-up to the mixtape, Kish released a behind-the-scenes digital art zine in the form of K+ THE BOOK in the month of December.
The song “Elegance” was released as a single by Kish on August 26, 2018. The track was awarded the “Best New Track” distinction by Pitchfork, and Sheldon Pearce made the following observation about it: “It is the best Kilo Kish song by a considerable margin, and it hones in on what makes her such an enchanting and elusive artist, using her wispy raps to drift through a warped pop jam.”
The following day, September 7, 2018, saw the release of her extended play, titled Mothe. Kish presented an alternate cover artwork for Mothe on July 29, 2019, and it immediately took the place of the previous cover artwork across all digital platforms. Photographer Andrew Arthur, with whom she has collaborated in the past, was the one to shoot the cover photo.
Beginning in October 2019, Kish issued a total of three new singles over the course of a span of two months. On October 17, 2019, “Bite Me” was made available for purchase, and the music video for the song was uploaded to YouTube the following day. The next songs to be published by Kish are titled “Nice Out” and “Spark”, and they were made available on November 7th and November 26th of 2019, respectively.
Kish’s newest extended play, titled Redux, was released on December 6, 2019, and includes all three of the singles that were released alongside supporting music videos. Kish has labeled Redux as 2018 Mothe’s “sister project,” and he has indicated that the topic of perseverance is explored throughout the extended play. Additionally, this is the fourth time that Kish has worked together with the producer Ray Brady.
