Larry Sharpe Bio, Life, and Career:

Larry David Sharpe is a business consultant, entrepreneur, political activist, and podcaster from the United States of America. He was born on July 12, 1968. In 2016, he attempted to win the Libertarian Party’s nomination for vice president of the United States but was ultimately unsuccessful. His opponent was Bill Weld, a former governor of Massachusetts. During the 2018 election for governor of New York, the Libertarian Party put forward Sharpe as their candidate for governor. Because he did not fulfill the requirements to be listed on the ballot for the general election, he was forced to run as a write-in candidate despite the fact that his party once again nominated him for the position of governor in the 2022 election for the state of New York.

He attended the University of Maryland University College to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from that institution.  Sharpe began his professional career as an educator of English before going on to found Prime Distribution Inc., a trucking and distribution company that he eventually sold in the year 2001. In the year 2004, Sharpe established Neo-Sage Group, Inc., an online business training company.  He currently holds the position of managing director at the company. Sharpe, a member of the Libertarian Party who is active in the party’s activist community, has outlined a vision to expand the party’s reach across the country by encouraging grassroots Libertarian Party campaigns.

Sharpe served on the Libertarian National Committee as an Alternate for Region 8 until he resigned in February 2018, due to an internal LNC vote that failed to oust the party’s then-vice chair, Arvin Vohra, following public controversial comments made by Vohra. Sharpe’s resignation was caused by the failure of the vote to oust Vohra from his position as vice chair of the party. On July 12, 2017, Sharpe made the announcement that he would be running for Governor of New York in the 2018 election. As a result, he was the first person to formally challenge the incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo in the race for that election.  On April 21, 2018, Sharpe was given the Libertarian nomination for governor, and Andrew Hollister was chosen as the nominee for Lieutenant Governor on the Libertarian ticket.

Prior to the first deadline for filing, Sharpe’s campaign had raised 102,596 dollars, which was second only to the amount raised by Andrew Cuomo’s re-election campaign. As of the 10th of October in 2018, Sharpe had raised $449,515 for his campaign, which was the highest amount that had ever been raised by a Libertarian candidate for governor in the state of New York. In addition, Sharpe was the only candidate in the race to have traveled to all 62 counties while campaigning for the position he was running for.

On the day of the election, Sharpe received 95,033 votes, which is 1.6% of the total, and finished in fourth place, behind Cuomo, the Republican challenger Marc Molinaro, and the Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins. As a result of Sharpe’s vote total, the Libertarian Party of New York was granted access to the automatic ballot for the very first time in the party’s history. Sharpe is in favor of loosening regulations, such as occupational licensing, legalizing marijuana, and decriminalizing other drugs.

He also favors reducing the number of rules that must be followed.  Sharpe has argued in favor of New York selling the naming rights to its bridges and highways in order to increase the state’s revenue. It was reported on October 5, 2021, that Sharpe had announced the formation of an exploratory committee for the purpose of running for governor of New York in the election that will take place in 2022.

Sharpe made the formal announcement on February 16, 2022, that he would be running for the office of governor of New York on the Kennedy ticket. During the course of the announcement, he mentioned that he was interested in running on the Libertarian Party, the Forward Party, and the Unite Party lines. After Sharpe’s announcement, the Forward Party ultimately decided to back him as their candidate. On February 19, 2022, Sharpe was presented with the Libertarian nomination for the position of governor. Andrew Hollister, who ran as Sharpe’s running mate in 2018, was chosen once more to be the nominee for the position of Lieutenant Governor.
