In 2018, Zomorodi handed in her resignation from her position at WNYC in order to launch a media venture named Stable Genius Productions with her former coworker Jen Poyant.
The podcast ZigZag, which is also their very first output, includes a documentary that details the process of founding their own firm. She will take over as anchor of the TED Radio Hour on NPR in March 2020. Zomorodi, who is of mostly Iranian origin, was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. He attended Georgetown University, where he majored in English and studied fine arts. It was at Thomson Reuters and BBC News where she got her start in journalism as a reporter and producer. During this time period, she spent two years as a resident in Berlin. She has two children with her husband, television reporter Josh Robin, with whom she shares a marriage.
New Tech City is the name of a podcast that Zomorodi has been hosting at WNYC since it debuted in September 2012. In 2015, the previous moniker was replaced with “Note to Self.” When asked to explain the show, Zomorodi referred to it as “the tech show about being Human.” The podcast discussed a wide variety of issues, such as information overload and digital clutter, as well as sexting and the eavesdropping capabilities of our various electronic devices.
In the year 2017, Zomorodi collaborated with ProPublica to launch “Breaking the Black Box,” an examination of the manner in which Facebook collects the personal data of its users. After this, a podcast and audience engagement series called “The Privacy Paradox was released. It consisted of five episodes and attempted to assist Facebook users in regaining control of their personal data. In 2018, this endeavor was recognized with a Webby Award in the category of Podcasts and Digital Audio.
The Academy of Podcasters awarded it the title of Best Tech Podcast of 2017 earlier this year. In 2018, Zomorodi and Jen Poyant, who was the Executive Producer for Note to Self, both left their positions at WNYC. The two of them created a media firm together and gave it the name “Stable Genius Productions,” which is a reference to a tweet by the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. ZigZag, a documentary podcast, was the first project undertaken by the new company. In it, the founders of the company captured the early days of the business. The podcast includes candid discussions by both co-founders about the financial risk they were taking and the impact of running the startup on their personal lives.
Topics covered include their attempts to obtain funding for their company, and ideas for new projects, and the podcast also covers their attempts to obtain funding for their company. The podcast is being disseminated for the first time as a component of the Radiotopia network, which was already in existence. Although they were unable to secure the initial finance they had sought, Zomorodi and Poyant formed a partnership with Civil, a marketplace that disseminated news via blockchain technology. In addition, Civil intended to offer one hundred million digital coins of their own cryptocurrency in order to bring in additional funding for both themselves and their partners. 2020 will mark the end of civil operations.
At the end of 2019, Zomorodi and Poyant were working together to restructure their relationship despite the limited amount of funding that was still available. It was announced in November 2019 that Zomorodi would be taking over as host of the TED Radio Hour, and Poyant had intended to begin taking on contract work for side projects. However, due to the fact that COVID-19 would be terminating advertising funding at the beginning of 2020, Stable Genius Productions did not have the financial runway to continue producing the podcast as a partnership. In the future, Zomorodi intends to keep his ownership of Stable Genius Productions, LLC, and he also has plans to contribute additional content to the ZigZag Podcast.
