Marc Gunn Bio, Life, and Career:

Marc Andrew Gunn is a musician and podcaster from the United States. He was born on March 17, 1972. Gunn rose to notoriety as the member of the Brobdingnagian Bards responsible for playing the autoharp. By doing concerts on a weekly basis on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, he and his collaborator Andrew McKee were able to build a loyal fan base. This resulted in the pair being hired to perform at renaissance fairs, science fiction conventions, and Celtic music festivals, in addition to performing at parties and weddings.

At the Oscar reception for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” the band served as the evening’s main attraction. After the band disbanded in 2008, Gunn went on to establish himself as a prolific recording musician within the field of Celtic music, producing eleven new albums between the years 2008 and 2011. His recording of “Rising of the Moon” was recognized as having the “Best Roots Traditional” category at the Celtic Radio Music Awards in the year 2013.

Gunn was one of the few professionals in the field of podcasting and was an early adopter of the medium. In May of 2005, he launched his first podcast, but it wasn’t until July of that year that he published his most popular podcast, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. This broadcast was initially conceived as an offshoot of his Celtic Music Magazine email newsletter. The success of the newsletter was quickly overshadowed by it. The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is a show that lasts for one hour and mostly focuses on independent Celtic musicians and bands.

The songs and tunes span from those that are considered traditional Irish music to more current forms of Celtic rock from all over the world.  It was recognized as having the “Best Podsafe Music” in all three years that the Podcast Awards were held: 2009, 2010, and 2017. Marc Gunn started out in the Celtic music industry as half of the duo known as the Brobdingnagian Bards. He was the producer for the early albums by the Bards. On September 15, 2008, the band Brobdingnagian Bards disbanded in a mutually agreeable manner. Gunn began performing solo. He issued a number of albums each year, releasing four full-length studio albums in 2008, three in 2009, and two in 2010. Gunn continued to release anywhere from one to two albums per year.

He started moving away from his typical base in Celtic music and made more albums with a geeky tone, which was inspired by shows like Firefly and Lord of the Rings as well as other science fiction-themed pop culture media shows. Each year, he gives performances both on his own and with ensembles at a variety of conventions such as Gen Con and Dragon Con. Marc Gunn, an admirer of Celtic music, initiated the publication known as Celtic Music Magazine in the year 2000.
