Marc Maron Bio, Life, and Career:

Marcus David Maron is a stand-up comedian, podcaster, writer, actor, and musician who was born in the United States of America on September 27, 1963. Maron was a frequent guest on the Late Show with David Letterman in the 1990s and 2000s, and he has made more than forty appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, which is more than any other stand-up comedian has done in their career. From 1993 to 1994, he was the host of the Short Attention Span Theater on Comedy Central, succeeding Jon Stewart in that role. He was also a regular guest on the show Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and hosted the American version of the British game show Never Mind the Buzzcocks on VH1 in 2002. Both of these shows were canceled after only a few seasons.

Between the years 2004 and 2009, he hosted The Marc Maron Show, co-hosted Morning Sedition, and was a part of the hosting team for Breakroom Live. He was also a regular on the left-leaning radio network Air America. Soon after the cancellation of Breakroom Live in September 2009, Marc Maron began hosting the twice-weekly podcast WTF with Marc Maron. Maron and his family relocated to Alaska because his father joined the United States Air Force for a period of two years in order to complete his medical residency there. Following his retirement from the Air Force, his father established a medical practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the family eventually settled.  From the time he was in the third grade until he graduated from high school, Maron called Albuquerque home.  He attended Highland High School and earned his diploma there. Maron received a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Boston University in 1986, where he studied for four years. In 1987, when Maron was 24 years old, he gave his first performance of stand-up comedy. It was at Sam Kinison’s Comedy Store in Los Angeles that he started his career as a professional comedian. During that time, he also became Sam Kinison’s associate.

Later on, he made the move to New York City, where he quickly immersed himself in the city’s alternative comedy scene. During the summer of 1994, he made multiple appearances at the open-mic night held on Mondays at the Boston Comedy Club location in Greenwich Village, which has since been shut down. Tracey Metzger was in charge of coordinating the event. He was high during his meeting with the show’s creator and producer, Lorne Michaels, and believes that this was the reason he was not selected for the Saturday Night Live cast overhaul in 1995. Jerusalem Syndrome, his first solo performance, ran for a longer-than-usual off-Broadway run in the year 2000 and was later published as a book the following year. In 2009, he started working on a new one-man show called Scorching the Earth in the workshop. These two shows are said to “bookend” his relationship with his second wife, comedian Mishna Wolff, which ultimately resulted in a contentious divorce, as stated by Maron in the book Scorching the Earth. Maron relocated back to Los Angeles in the latter half of 2009 after spending the 1990s and the majority of the 2000s living in Astoria, Queens.
