Ming-Na Wen Bio, Life, and Career:
On November 20th, 1963, Ming Na Wen was born in the district of Coloane on the island of Macau. Her parents divorced when she was still a little child, and shortly afterward she relocated to Hong Kong with her mother, Lin Chan, and her brother, Jonathan. Following the dissolution of her marriage, Ming Na’s mother remarried an American businessman named Soo Lim Yee and began working as a nurse. Her new husband’s family decided to start their new life in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood. After they moved from New York five years later, her stepfather became a member of the staff of the ‘Chinatown Inn’ restaurant that was managed by his family in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
When Ming Na was a teenager, she volunteered her time to work at the restaurant. When she was in the third grade, she took part in the Easter play that served as the catalyst for her realization that acting was the field in which she wanted to pursue a career. She had acted the part of a “klutz bunny” in the play. In the state of Pennsylvania, she received her secondary education in the Mt. Lebanon area. She felt like an outsider at school because of her background, so she chose to go by the names Doris or Maggie.
Ming Na Wen chose to pursue a career in the theater, despite the fact that her mother wanted her to go into medicine. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. Her concentration was in acting. She was a bright student who ultimately graduated with excellent honors.
