Olivia Cooke Bio, Life, and Career:
Olivia Kate Cooke is a British actress who was born on the 27th of December 1993. She is most known for her roles on television as Emma Decody in the suspense series Bates Motel (2013–2017), Becky Sharp in the historical drama Vanity Fair (2018), and Alicent Hightower in the fantasy drama House of the Dragon (2022–present). Cooke’s filmography includes starring roles in the horror movie Ouija (2014), the comedy-drama movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015), the thriller movie Thoroughbreds (2017), the science fiction movie Ready Player One (2018), and the drama movie Sound of Metal (2020).
When she was a little child, her parents got a divorce, and after that, she and her sister moved in with their mother. She began her acting career when she was eight years old at an after-school play program in her hometown called the Oldham Theatre Workshop. She attended Royton and Crompton Academy and Oldham Sixth Form College, where she majored in acting, but she left school before completing her A-levels so that she could star in the drama series Blackout. She made her debut as Maria in a college production of West Side Story, and soon after, she was cast in Prom: The Musical, an adaptation of Cinderella that was staged at the Oldham Theatre Workshop.
This turned out to be her only main role. When she was only 14 years old, she signed a contract with her first local agent, who subsequently gained her commercial opportunities. In the video for One Direction’s “Autumn Term” tour, which was released in 2012, she played the role of a student who was given a piggyback ride by Harry Styles. Despite the fact that her agent advised her not to enroll in drama school because she was already obtaining acting work, she was adamant about going to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). She even made it to the final round of auditions, but she was ultimately rejected.
As of the year 2020, she has been residing in London. After Cooke gave a performance at the Oldham Theatre Workshop, a casting director named Beverley Keogh, who worked next door to her agency, found parts for her on television. Cooke had starring roles in all three of the BBC mini-series productions that were broadcast in 2012. She played the daughter of Christopher Eccleston’s character in Blackout and a young teacher at a repressive orphanage in The Secret of Crickley Hall, which was set in the 1940s. Cooke remarked that she felt more comfortable working on television rather than on stage because she found the overly dramatic movements that are sometimes required for stage acting to be embarrassing.
In spite of the fact that she was inexperienced, Cooke stood out among European actresses throughout the arduous casting process for The Quiet Ones, which culminated in the release of the film in April 2014, exactly two years after it had been filmed. After the success of The Quiet Ones in 2012, Cooke was able to secure representation in the Los Angeles area. She submitted an audition tape for the role of Emma Decody after reading the character descriptions for the current Psycho prequel Bates Motel on A&E. The show is called Bates Motel. Three weeks later, Cooke was offered the role of Emma, which would be her debut performance in an American production. She was first dissatisfied because she thought the filmmakers were taking a fail-safe step by making Emma Mancunian since they were concerned about her accent.
Since then, however, Cooke has been incorrectly identified as an American, with the assistance of fellow English actor Freddie Highmore, who has prior experience working with an American accent. Additionally, Cooke provided Emma’s imaginary blog with a handful of short films. The Signal, the second feature film directed by Cooke and starring Brenton Thwaites and Laurence Fishburne, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014. Cooke played the role of Haley Peterson, an American MIT student who was moving to Caltech. Haley, her boyfriend, and her closest friend were led into the desert by a hacker, and during their time there, they saw several unusual incidents.
Cooke took the lead role in the cast of the horror film Ouija, which was released in October 2014 and was based on the board game by Hasbro. Cooke took on a significant amount of responsibility by playing the lead character, Laine Morris, and appeared in the vast majority of the scenes. The plot of the story centered on a group of friends who tried to utilize an Ouija board to communicate with a buddy who had passed away, but instead, they ended up reawakening a sinister spirit. In spite of the fact that it was blasted by critics, Ouija was a financial triumph at the box office, with a worldwide gross of around $102.5 million.
