P-Star Bio, Life, and Career:
Priscilla Star Diaz also known by her stage name MISSPSTAR and formerly known as P-Star, is an American rapper, dancer, model, singer, actress, director, and disc jockey. She was born on June 13, 1994, and her birth name is Priscilla Star Diaz. Diaz gained the most notoriety for her performance as Jessica Ruiz in the revival of The Electric Company that aired on PBS Kids Go in 2009 and for her role as the primary subject of the PBS Independent Lens documentary P-Star Rising. Diaz’s father, Jesse Diaz, was a former rapper, and his mother, Doris Diaz, was a heroin addict when Diaz was born. Diaz and her older sister, Solsky, spent their childhood in Harlem.
Diaz and her older sister each have a younger half-sister named Sinclair, who was initially given up for adoption by Diaz’s biological father but was eventually taken in by the family. Diaz’s father was Puerto Rican, and her mother was of Cuban descent. She was born in Cuba. Diaz and Solsky were raised in Harlem by their father as a single parent while their mother was incarcerated. After their mother was released, Diaz’s father was able to regain custody of his daughters and raise them on his own. After the failure of her father’s music career and the fact that Diaz and her family were forced to live in a shelter, Diaz made the decision when she was seven years old that she wanted to become a rapper so that she could provide a better life for herself and her family.
Diaz started her career as a rapper at the age of nine when she competed against other rappers twice her age in nightclubs in Harlem that were open after hours. In 2005, she competed in and won the Citywide Hip Hop competition, making her the youngest female competitor of that year. In the same year, Diaz participated in the music video for “Oye mi Canto” and recorded an album with Reggaeton Nios as the main vocalist. In 2007, she entered into a recording contract with the independent record label Hunc Records. In the same year, she released her debut studio album under the title Welcome to My Show, and the song “Biggie Bounce” was issued as a single from the album. Her music videos “Don’t Stop the Dance” and “Sukoshidake Katamomoi” were both directed by Diaz. P-Star has made available two versions of her singing, one in English and one in Japanese.
She made an appearance in the Off-Broadway production of Take the Train to Maine, the short film Sita, which was released in 2005, and the revival of The Electric Company in 2009, in which she played the role of Jessica Ruiz. Diaz has modeled for the fashion labels Royal Addiction, Baby Phat, J. Lo, and Rocawear, among others. In the year 2008, Diaz contributed to the fight against childhood obesity by releasing her exercise DVD titled “P-Star Workout DVD: Exercise Your Body and Mind, Vol. 1.” P-Star made her comeback with the single “Don’t Sleep On Me,” which was released on SoundCloud in the year 2017.
In 2018, Diaz released the single “Broke” under her new stage name, which is “MISSPSTAR.” She also directed the music video that was released in conjunction with the single. After this, she released her third single under the title “Left, Right.” In 2015, Diaz was given admission to Denison University in Ohio, where she planned to double-major in theatre and education. She was a member of the school’s cheerleading team and worked as a disc jockey for the school radio station while she was a student there. Diaz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Education from Denison University in the month of May 2017. After the birth of her first child, Diaz began recording episodes of a podcast she called Restless Mother. The podcast is about motherhood.
