Randy Couture Bio, Life, and Career:

Born Randall Duane Couture on June 22, 1963, Randall Duane Couture is an American actor, a former mixed martial artist, and a former collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestler. He also served as a sergeant in the United States Army. In the course of his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he won the titles of Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight Champion three times, Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight Champion twice, and Interim Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight Champion once.

As a result, he is a six-time UFC Champion and the winner of the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament. He is the first of eight fighters to hold two UFC championship titles in two different divisions. The other seven fighters are B.J. Penn, Conor McGregor, Georges St. Pierre, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Henry Cejudo. Jon Jones is the eighth fighter to hold two UFC championship titles.

A record 16 title fights have been contested by Couture during his career. He is tied with the previous UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for the record of most wins in UFC Heavyweight Championship bouts with a total of six victories each. With six title reigns under his belt, he holds the record for the most in the UFC. His most recent match, which he had with Lyoto Machida, was his 24th fight overall in the UFC.

He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as the fourth fighter overall. He is one of only two fighters over the age of 40 to have triumphed in a UFC championship bout, and he has done so on four separate occasions. He is one of the very few mixed martial arts (MMA) champions to win back a championship that he had previously lost, and he is the only one to have done so three times (twice at heavyweight and once at light heavyweight).

Throughout most of his career, Couture has resided in Corvallis, Oregon, where he has worked as an assistant wrestling coach as well as a strength and conditioning coach at Oregon State University. Couture also competed as an alternate in the Olympic wrestling competition. Together with Matt Lindland and Dan Henderson, he founded Team Quest, a training camp for boxers with its headquarters in Gresham, Oregon, and Robert Folis served as the camp’s head coach.

After relocating to Las Vegas in 2005, he launched the first location of what would become an expansive chain of fitness centers under the moniker Xtreme Couture. He and Bas Rutten are the co-owners of the Hollywood, California facility known as Legends Gym. Everett, Washington is the place where Couture was born. His mother, Sharan Amelia (née King), and his father, Edward Lewis “Ed” Couture, are his parents. He began his wrestling career at Alderwood Middle School in Lynnwood, Washington.

After transferring to Lynnwood High School, he went on to become a state champion in wrestling during his senior year at Lynnwood High School. Between the years 1982 and 1988, he was an active member of the United States Army, rising to the level of Sergeant in the 101st Airborne, where he “wrestled and did a little boxing.” During his time in the military, he attempted to join the United States Army freestyle wrestling team.

However, a clerical error caused his application to be submitted to the United States Army Greco-Roman wrestling team instead. Rather than waiting until the following year, he chose to compete in Greco-Roman wrestling. He was selected for the team despite the fact that he had never participated in a Greco-Roman competition. At UFC 15, which took place on October 17, 1997, the fight between Vitor Belfort and Randy Couture was held to determine the number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

As a result of Belfort’s dominance in the UFC 12 Heavyweight Tournament, which he won by knocking out all of his opponents with devastating punches, Couture entered the bout as the underdog. The clinch was won by Couture as he avoided getting hit by Belfort’s left hand by wheeling away from it. The combatants were separated, and as Belfort attempted to throw a barrage of punches, Couture took him down with a takedown. Instantaneously, he took side control and unleashed strikes on his opponent.

Couture landed knee strikes as Belfort scrambled to his feet throughout the fight. He clinched one more and eventually knocked Belfort out with his filthy boxing. At the seven-minute mark, Belfort could no longer go. After another takedown, Couture finished him off with punches as he was in the rear mount, resulting in one of the most shocking upsets in mixed martial arts history at the time.

On December 21 at UFC Japan, Randy Couture issued a challenge to the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Maurice Smith, for the latter to make his second defense of the title since taking it from Mark Coleman earlier that year. Couture was successful in multiple takedowns and maintained positional control throughout the entirety of the battle, despite the slow tempo of the fight and the lack of major damage inflicted by either fighter on the other.

After 21 minutes of competition, he emerged victorious via unanimous decision and assumed the title of UFC Heavyweight Champion. Despite the fact that this victory was contentious, many people believe that Smith did enough to win the battle.

After being an alternate for the tournament for three weeks, Randy Couture made his debut in the professional realm of mixed martial arts on May 30, 1997, at the event known as UFC 13, which included a competition among four heavyweight competitors. Tony Halme, who was his first opponent, was far heavier than he was by nearly 100 pounds (45 kg; 7.1 st).

After a brief exchange of ground and pound, Randy Couture quickly took his opponent down with a double-leg takedown and finished the fight with a rear naked choke submission in less than one minute. In the championship round, he won by technical knockout at 3:13 minutes into the first round against another heavier opponent named Steven Graham, who weighed 290 pounds.
