Rich Vos Bio, Life, and Career:
Born Richard Ira Vos on June 30, 1957, Rich Vos grew up in the primarily black community of Plainfield, New Jersey. He was raised in a Jewish family and witnessed his parent’s divorce at an early age. We don’t know anything about his tertiary education, but we may assume he never made it through high school. He was able to indulge his early fascination with stand-up comedy thanks to television shows like “The Ed Sullivan Show,” which aired while he was a kid.
Vos played the role of the bouncer and often did his own sketches in the 2001 English Channel 5 show The People of New York vs. Jerry Sadowitz. In 2004, Vos published his debut DVD, titled simply “Vos,” which featured a 55-minute performance shot from a single camera perspective. The event took place at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I’m Killing Here, a CD of his music was also released. Vos was a finalist on the third season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing and finished in third place on the first season.
Vos wed fellow comic and competitor Bonnie McFarlane in September 2005. McFarlane had previously appeared on season 2 of Last Comic Standing. Rayna Lynn Vos was born to them on July 31, 2007. On what was then the Opie and Anthony show, then Opie Radio with Jim Norton, and now Opie Radio on SiriusXM, he has been a regular guest for years. Jokes about him and his speech impediment or apparent lack of intelligence were a staple of his character on the show.
As of the comedian’s death in 2011, he was also a close friend of Patrice O’Neal. At the wake given for O’Neal, Vos was one of the comics who spoke, and he was the one who put the box of Twinkies in the open casket. In addition to his appearances on Premium Blend, he has also starred in two half-hour specials that aired on Comedy Central Presents. In New York, you can catch him at Caroline’s or the Comedy Cellar.
In 2006 and 2007, he hosted Opie and Anthony’s Comedy Tour: The Traveling Virus. He portrayed “the evil guy” on an episode of What Would You Do? and went a little too far with his jokes. Actor and comedian Rich Vos hails from the United States. He’s been on more than a hundred episodes of television across networks including HBO, Showtime, and Starz, and has even hosted four Comedy Central specials.
He co-starred with Bonnie McFarlane, Chris Rock, Rosie O’Donnell, and others in the critically acclaimed comedy Women Aren’t Funny, which he also produced. Paste Magazine rated his podcast My Wife Hates Me as one of the best podcasts of the moment, and he has written for the Academy Awards twice. In addition to Joe Rogan’s podcast, Guys we F@%*@ed, he has appeared on Marc Maron’s WTF twice. He has 32 years of sobriety and 20 years of golfing success.

In 1984, he started performing stand-up comedy at small venues. After a string of failures, he claims he made the decision to pursue acting full-time. HBO’s Def Comedy Jam originally included African American comedians, but in 1995, Rich Vos made history by becoming the show’s first white host. He considers the Woodstock ’99 festival he produced in July 1999 to be the pinnacle of his professional achievements.
Back in 2001, he appeared on British television in a sketch he wrote about The People vs. Jerry Sadowitz. His stand-up comedy album, I Kill Here, came out that same year. It was also in 2004 when his DVD, titled Vos, was launched. There was a two-and-a-half-hour special he created and aired on Comedy Central Presents.
In 2003, he competed on NBC’s Last ComicStanding and finished in third place. He was called “Don” because of his tough persona, and he explained that this was likely owing to the fact that he had the greatest experience in the comics industry.
