Russell Westbrook Bio, Life and Career:

Russell Westbrook III is an American professional basketball player who now works for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association. He was born on November 12, 1988, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (NBA). In addition to being a part of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, he has been selected as an NBA All-Star a total of nine times and was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2016–2017 season.

He is also a member of the All-NBA Team nine times, led the league in scoring in both the 2014–15 and 2016–17 seasons, and earned the Most Valuable Player award in the NBA All-Star Game in back-to-back years (2015) and (2016). Westbrook is one of only two players in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season in 2017, the same year he earned the Most Valuable Player award for the league. The other player to accomplish this feat was Oscar Robertson in 1962.

Also, he established a new benchmark for the most triple-doubles in a season with 42 of them. He continued his dominance by averaging a triple-double over the next two seasons, becoming the first player in league history to do so, as well as leading the league in assists and becoming the first player to lead the league in points and assists over the course of many seasons. Westbrook averaged a triple-double for the fourth time in the past five seasons during the 2020–21 campaign, and he moved above Robertson to become the player with the most career triple-doubles in the history of the NBA.

Westbrook received recognition as a member of the third team of all-conference players in the Pac-10 while playing collegiate basketball with the UCLA Bruins. After moving to Oklahoma City within the same week, the Seattle SuperSonics used the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draught to choose him. The team had previously played in Seattle. Westbrook has been a member of the United States national team on two separate occasions, during which he helped the squad to victory in the FIBA World Championship in 2010 and at the Olympics in 2012.

He was dealt to the Houston Rockets in 2019, where he spent one season playing before being moved on to the Washington Wizards in 2020 via another trade. He played one year for the Washington Wizards before being sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021. Westbrook was bought out of his contract in 2023 and then transferred to the Utah Jazz after spending two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. After that, he joined the Los Angeles Clippers in the following season. Long Beach, California is where Westbrook’s parents, Russell Westbrook Jr. and Shannon Horton, brought their first child into the world. Raynard is his younger brother, and they are close.

When I was a kid, I lived in Hawthorne. Westbrook and his best friend Khelcey Barrs III had aspirations of attending the same college and playing basketball together there. While Barrs was just 16 years old, it was already well known that he had exceptional basketball talents, and he was offered college scholarships as a result.  Barrs passed away in May of 2004 as a result of an enlarged heart while playing a pick-up game. After Barrs passed away, Westbrook appeared even more driven to succeed in his career as a way to honour the memories of his best buddy.

Westbrook started out as a point guard at Leuzinger High School despite the fact that he was just 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 metres) tall and weighed only 140 pounds (64 kg), despite the fact that he had huge feet (size 14). It was not until the middle of his junior year that he was given a starting position on the varsity team at his school, and it was not until the summer before his senior year that he received his first letter from a college recruiting coach. During that same summer, Westbrook reached his adult height of 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 metres). Westbrook had a stellar senior season, finishing with an average of 25.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals, and 2.3 assists while helping his team to a record of 25–4 overall.

During that same season, he had a total of 14 double-doubles, eight different games in which he scored 30 points or more, and one game in which he scored a career-high 51 points, which was versus Carson on January 6, 2006. At the beginning of his career, Westbrook did not garner much notice from the best collegiate basketball programmes.  Ben Howland, the head coach of the UCLA Bruins, found out that he had grown taller, which was a significant factor in him scoring more than 25 points per game on average and becoming a quality college basketball prospect. He recruited him to play for the Bruins. While Westbrook was waiting for the Bruins’ Jordan Farmar to go early for the NBA and free up a scholarship spot, he turned down other offers from other schools.
