SAINt JHN Bio, Life, and Career:
Christopher St. John Carlos Phillips (called “Saint John”) is a Guyanese-American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was born on August 26, 1986, but is better known by his stage name, Saint Jhn (stylized as SAINt JHN; pronounced “Saint John”). The 2019 remix of his song “Roses” from 2016 has brought him the most attention. The remix, which was made by a Kazakh DJ by the name of Imanbek, climbed all the way to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and topped the charts in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
When Saint Jhn’s third studio album, While the World Was Burning, was finally published on November 20, 2020, this song was chosen to serve as the album’s lead single. Before that, in 2018, he published his first studio album titled Collection One, which was then followed by an album titled Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs, which was released in 2019. He has written songs that have been recorded by artists like Kanye West, Jidenna, Usher, Hoodie Allen, and Kiesza. He was one of the first people to join the music collaborative known as Gdd Complex.
Phillips spent his childhood in Georgetown, Guyana, despite having been born in Brooklyn, New York City. When he was a child, he divided his time as he was growing up between the country of Guyana and the East New York neighborhood in the borough of Brooklyn. When he was twelve years old, he started writing songs and was encouraged to do so by his older brother, who had a rapping career and performed in the neighborhood with friends. While he was still in his freshman year of high school and still residing in Guyana, he composed his first song.
Before he began using the stage name Saint Jhn, he used his birth name, Carlos St. John (or Carlos Saint John), when he was performing and writing music. In 2010, he released a mixtape titled In Association as well as an extended play titled The St. John Portfolio under his birth name. Soon after that, music industry producer Zach Katz whisked him away to the city of Los Angeles in the state of California. He worked on writing songs for Rihanna over a period of two months, but none of his recordings were chosen. Saint Jhn collaborated with Hoodie Allen to write the song “No Interruption” after he had returned home.
In the years that followed, Saint Jhn penned songs for a variety of artists, including Kiesza, Gorgon City, and Nico & Vinz, amongst others. In the year 2016, he was given writing credit for two songs by Usher: “Crash” and “Rivals.” Both of these songs were included in the album Hard II Love. Additionally in the year 2016, he issued his debut single under the alias Saint Jhn, which was titled “1999.” After that, he released two additional songs under his own name in 2016, titled “Roses” and “Reflex.” It was reported in October 2016 that Saint Jhn will serve as the opening act for Post Malone during a tour that would take place on the West Coast.
Saint Jhn contributed to the writing of Jidenna’s song “Helicopters / Beware,” which was included on the album The Chief, which was published in February of 2017. The next month after that, Saint Jhn released another one of his original songs titled “3 Below.” He performed at two festivals in October of that year, including Rolling Loud and the Voodoo Experience. A second brand-new song, titled “Hermes Freestyle,” was also released by him. The song “I Heard You Got Too Litt Last Night” was released by Saint Jhn in the month of February 2018. Early in the month of March, he distributed the song titled “Albino Blue,” then on March 30, 2018, he distributed his first studio album.
At that time, the tracks from the album that had already been released had accumulated a total of 50 million streams across a variety of platforms. In addition to working on music and going on tour in support of Collection One, Saint Jhn was engaged by Gucci to model for the “Guilty” campaign alongside Adesuwa Aighewi. This was done in conjunction with Saint Jhn’s career in the music industry. The release of the Imanbek remix helped propel Saint Jhn’s track “Roses” to the top spot on the ARIA Charts and the UK Singles Chart in April 2020. Both charts were dominated by the record’s success. After some time, additional remixes of the song were produced, one with Future and the other with J Balvin.
As a result of the popularity of “Roses,” Saint Jhn was one of the acts that participated in the live performances at the beginning of October 2020 for the Billboard Music Awards. While the World Was Burning is the artist’s third studio album, and “Gorgeous” is the album’s lead single, which was released on the 23rd of October, 2020. Watch the music video for “Gorgeous” here. On October 26, he released the artwork for the album, as well as the tracklist and the release date of November 20, 2020. This album includes the tracks “High School Reunion, Prom,” which features Lil Uzi Vert, “Monica Lewinsky, Election Year,” which features DaBaby and A Boogie wit da Hoodie, as well as “Pray 4 Me,” which features Kanye West . As the first single from their forthcoming joint album, “Stadiums” was released by Saint Jhn and London on Da Track in the month of December 2022.
