Sara Benincasa Bio, Life, and Career:

Sara Benincasa is a stand-up comedian and author based in the United States. Warren Wilson College, located in Asheville, North Carolina, is where Benincasa earned her bachelor’s degree in creative writing. She graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a Master of Arts degree in Secondary School Education.  After receiving his degree, Benincasa worked as an educator for AmeriCorps in the state of Texas. As part of MTV’s Think campaign, which won an Emmy Award in 2008, Benincasa worked as a citizen journalist for the network and covered the 2008 presidential election in the United States. Benincasa was recognized as a funny blogger and given a spot on Nerve.com’s BlogALog.

On April 1, 2008, she published her final entry on the SJ1000 blog, in which she recommended that readers who missed her Internet presence check out her official website, her Myspace page, her profile on MTV Think, or her blog.  In addition to maintaining a blog, Benincasa has also taped and posted a series of interviews under the title Tub Talk with Sara B. In one episode of the series, Benincasa was shown in a bathtub among a variety of funny characters, such as Reggie Watts, Jonathan Ames, and Andy Borowitz. Since then, Benincasa has reimagined the web series and uploaded it to her YouTube channel under the name Gettin’ Wet with Sara Benincasa. Margaret Cho, Donald Glover, Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer, and James Urbaniak are some of the people that will be interviewed. Additionally, she has made contributions to the Jezebel website.

Sara Benincasa is an actress, writer, and comedian who was born and raised in the state of New Jersey. She is also the author of the books “Real Artists Have Day Jobs” (published by William Morrow in 2016), “DC Trip” (published by Adaptive in 2015), “Great” (published by HarperTeen in 2014), and “Agorafabulous!: Dispatches From My Bedroom” (William Morrow 2012). She wrote for the thirteenth season of Mystery Science Theater 3000, adapted “DC Trip” as a screenplay in collaboration with Bona Fide, Gunpowder & Sky, and Adaptive Studios, and adapted “Agorafabulous!” as a pilot for television in collaboration with Diablo Cody, winner of an Academy Award for best screenplay. Benincasa started producing a video blog in which she mimics the character of Sarah Palin, a candidate for vice president on the Republican ticket, in September of 2008.  She pays particular attention to Palin’s articulation of the region’s dialect. These vlogs were initially uploaded to Benincasa’s YouTube profile; however, once a collaboration was made with the humor website 23/6 which is affiliated with the Huffington Post, the vlogs were relocated to the YouTube page that is associated with twentythreesix. Benincasa created a one-woman play in 2009 that was based on her personal experiences dealing with agoraphobia and panic attacks.

Since then, she has concluded a deal with William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, to transfer the literary rights to Agorafabulous! Before September 2010, Benincasa was a co-host of the sex and relationship chat show Get in Bed on Sirius XM Satellite Radio, which was broadcast on Cosmo Radio. The following month, in February 2011, she collaborated with Marcus Parks to produce a podcast titled “Sex and Other Human Activities.” The program includes a portion in which listeners submit questions about sex to be answered by the hosts via email and Formspring. It was characterized as “Sara’s final show on the old SAOHA” in the episode that aired on September 19, 2012, and it was given the title “End of an Era.”

In January 2018, Benincasa made a prize of $300 available to any journalist who questioned President Trump on the topic of the United States’ relations with the mythical African nation of Wakanda, which is the setting for Marvel’s Black Panther. Her Afro-futurism tweet went viral.  She was highlighted in a documentary that was uploaded to YouTube and developed by SoulPancake and Funny or Dies on October 10, 2019. The documentary lasted for thirty minutes. On the podcast, Laughing Matters, comedians of all stripes talk about issues related to mental health.  “Well, This Isn’t Normal” is a podcast, and Sara Benincasa is in charge of hosting it.

In addition to being a comedian and an actress, she is also the author of several books, including REAL ARTISTS HAVE DAY JOBS, AGORAFABULOUS!, D.C. TRIP, and GREAT. She has also penned episodes for the upcoming season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in addition to adopting a few of her books for film and television.
