Sara Schaefer Bio, Life and Career:

Sara Schaefer is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and author. She was born on July 10, 1978, in the United States. Schaefer is the daughter of Billie and William “Bill” Schaefer and was brought up in Midlothian, Virginia by her parents. Pennies for Heaven, Inc. was a charitable organization that was founded by her mother.  After graduating from Maggie Walker Governor’s School, she continued her education at William & Mary College. Schaefer lives in Los Angeles. After graduating from college in 2000, Schaefer made the move to New Orleans and became involved in the local theatre community. In 2001, Schaefer made the move to New York City, where he immediately began a career in comedy writing, producing, and performance.

During that time, she was also employed at a law firm in New York City in the capacity of a damages analyst.  During the years 2006 and 2007, she was the host of an online comedy and music show for AOL called The DL. For this show, she produced approximately 350 videos or segments with a wide variety of well-known and up-and-coming artists, musicians, and performers. These guests included Hulk Hogan, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Fallon, and Jamie Kennedy, among others. At the HBO Comedy Arts Festival, which took place in Aspen, Colorado, in 2007, she appeared as a featured performer. She worked as an editor for the Best Week Ever blog at VH1 in the year 2008. She has made appearances on the television shows Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, E!, VH-1, and Fuse.  Schaefer was recognized as one of the “Ten New Comedians That Funny People Find Funny” by New York Magazine in the year 2009.

She won the Emmy Award for Creative Achievement in Interactive Media (non-fiction) in 2009 and 2010 for her work as the Head Blogger for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 until 2011. During that time, she was with the show from 2009 until 2011. The first episode of Nikki & Sara Live, a television series consisting of weekly talk shows hosted by Schaefer and Glaser, debuted on MTV on January 29, 2013. After only two seasons, MTV decided to cancel the show. On John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show in 2013, Schaefer made her first appearance performing stand-up comedy for television audiences.

She has since gone on to write for a variety of television shows, such as The Fake News with Ted Nelms starring Ed Helms, The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, The History of Swear Words, and Problematic with Moshe Kasher.  In 2017, she conceived of, oversaw the production of, and served as host for the web series Woman Online, which was broadcast on Seriously.
