Sean Mooney Bio, Life, and Career:
Sean Edmund Mooney is a well-known American news anchor and a former play-by-play announcer for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now known as WWE). He was born on May 21, 1959. He currently holds a position as an anchor for both the National Wrestling Alliance and KVOA, which is the NBC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in the city of Rochester in the state of New York. Mooney made his debut on the episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge that aired on May 15, 1988.
He took over for the announcer Craig DeGeorge.Mooney’s primary responsibilities in the WWF included play-by-play announcing for matches that were broadcast on Prime Time Wrestling, WWF Mania, and WWF All-American Wrestling; hosting Coliseum Video releases (where he also provided commentary for “exclusive” matches); and hosting the “Events Center” segment during the WWF’s syndicated TV shows, such as WWF Superstars and WWF Wrestling Challenge. Mooney left the WW This segment was called “Event Center,” and it was used to promote house shows and feuds.
Mooney’s scenes in the “Event Center” were edited in such a way as to omit the impact of Earthquake’s crushing of Jake Roberts’ pet snake Damian. These edits were made while Mooney was in the “Event Center.” In August of 1988, Mooney made his debut in the pay-per-view industry as an interviewer for the inaugural SummerSlam event. On occasion, Mooney portrayed his fictional siblings, including an identical twin sister named Betty on Prime Time Wrestling (alongside heel wrestlers such as Sensational Sherri), and an identical twin brother named Ian Mooney while co-hosting Wrestling Spotlight. Both of these characters were portrayed by Mooney. Mooney’s most recent significant appearances were at the 1992 Survivor Series and early episodes of WWF Monday Night Raw. However, his actual last appearance on WWF TV was as the host of the countdown show to WrestleMania IX. In April of 1993, the term of his contract came to an end, and he made the decision not to renew it.
His role as an interviewer and a personality in the Event Center was taken over by Todd Pettengill, and the play-by-play duties for WWF Mania and WWF All-American Wrestling were taken over by Gorilla Monsoon. In October of 2005, he made his return to WWE television during the pre-show for WWE Raw’s “Homecoming” broadcast on the USA Network. The pre-show simply rebroadcast some older episodes of RAW that had previously aired on the USA Network.
During these episodes, Mooney and a number of other individuals who had been involved with the WWE during the early years of Monday Night Raw shared their recollections of the company at that time. Mooney made his return to WWE for the second time on July 23, 2012, during the 1,000th episode of Raw, by conducting a backstage interview with Daniel Bryan. Mooney made a subsequent appearance on the “Old School” edition of “The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness” and later appeared as a co-host alongside Charly Caruso in the 2017 DVD release of “WWE Unreleased 1986–1995,” which was titled “WWE Unreleased 1986–1995.” Mooney also made an appearance in the celebration of the Top 25 Raw moments, which was broadcast on the WWE Network on January 15, 2018.
