The children’s book series The School for Good and Evil was written by American author and filmmaker Soman Chainani. Chainani is most known for writing these books. Chainani’s family was one of the few families in Key Biscayne, Florida, that was of Indian heritage when he was growing up there. He received his education at Harvard University, where he earned a degree in English and American Literature in the year 2001.

He is a published author. As of the year 2003, he called New York City his home. After completing his undergraduate degree, he continued his education at Columbia University and enrolled in the MFA Film Program there. The School for Good and Evil, the first book in Soman’s series, made its debut on the New York Times Bestseller List, has since gone on to sell more than 3.5 million copies, has been converted into a blockbuster movie picture by Netflix, and has opened at number one in over 80 countries.
