Steve Austin Bio, Life, and Career:

Steve Austin was born Steven James Anderson on December 18, 1964. He is better known by his ring name, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, which he has used throughout his career. During the Attitude Era, which spanned the late 1990s and early 2000s and was a prosperous time for the wrestling industry, he was an integral part of the development and success of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, which is now known as WWE). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential professional wrestlers of all time. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 1989 with a degree in football, Austin immediately launched his career in professional wrestling.

He signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1991 and adopted the persona of “Stunning” Steve Austin, a villainous in-ring technician. He went on to win the WCW World Television Championship and the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship twice each, along with the WCW World Tag Team Championship and NWA World Tag Team Championship once each with Brian Pillman. He also won the WCW World Tag Team Championship and NWA World Tag Team Championship with Brian Pillman (as the Hollywood Blondes). Following a brief time spent in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), Austin obtained a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, which is now known as WWE) in the year 1995.

After completing his high school education at Edna High School, he received a football scholarship to attend Wharton County Junior College, and then he received a full scholarship to attend the University of North Texas. He began his career in the sport playing linebacker until sustaining a knee injury that forced him to swap positions and play defensive end instead.  Austin would later remark that the first wrestling matches he ever saw were put on by Houston Wrestling and directed by Paul Boesch. Houston Wrestling was responsible for producing those matches “When I was between the ages of seven and eight is when I first became interested in the industry.

My entire life, I’ve had one career goal in mind: I want to be a professional wrestler. My life revolved around wrestling, and that was the most important thing to me.” When he moved to attend university, he had been living around 30 miles away from the Dallas Sportatorium, a structure that he subsequently referred to with affection as a “magnificent shithole of a building.” Before he moved, he had been living there. It was at this location that World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) staged its weekly Friday night events.

Austin was repackaged in the WWF as a short-tempered, brash, anti-establishment antihero named “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. As a result of his feud with company chairman Mr. McMahon, Austin became the most popular wrestler of the Attitude Era. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin became known as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. He was the fifth WWF Triple Crown Champion, having won the WWF Championship six times, the WWF Intercontinental Championship twice, the Million Dollar Championship once, and the WWF Tag Team Championship four times. He was also the winner of the Million Dollar Championship.

In addition to this, he holds the record for most victories at the Royal Rumble with three, he was crowned King of the Ring in 1996, and he was the main attraction at a number of WWF pay-per-view events, including WrestleMania four times. After suffering repeated knee injuries and a catastrophic neck injury during the SummerSlam event in 1997, he was eventually forced to retire from in-ring competition in 2003. Since then, he has only made rare appearances in the ring. After being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009, he competed against Kevin Owens in a one-off bout at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022.

Austin is the host of the podcast The Steve Austin Show (which debuted in 2013 and is still going strong) as well as the video podcast Broken Skull Sessions for WWE (2019–present). The Broken Skull IPA and the Broken Skull American Lager are the products of his partnership with El Segundo Brewing. In addition to that, he was the host of the reality competition programs Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge (which aired from 2014 to 2017) and Straight Up Steve Austin (2019–present). On December 18th, 1964 in Austin, Texas, Austin was given the name Steven James Anderson at the time of his birth. When he was about a year old, his parents Beverly (née Harrison) and James Anderson had a divorce. Beverly was previously married to Harrison.

After moving to Edna, Texas, where Austin would spend the majority of his youth, his mother married Ken Williams in 1968. Austin would spend the majority of his childhood in Edna. At some point in his life, Steve Austin went through the process of officially changing his name to Steven James Williams in order to honor his stepfather. However, he later went through the process of legally changing his name back to Steve Austin. He is the youngest of four children; his three brothers are named Scott, Kevin, and Jeff, and his sister’s name is Jennifer. Given that Austin is only a few months younger than Kevin, Austin speculates in his memoirs that their father may have abandoned the family because he was unable to care for another kid so close in age to the first.
